I do not think tenure is becoming an unpopular practice because of controversial research. I see college professors publishing mindless, antisocial content on social media on a daily basis that is embarrassing to their institutions. That's what will end tenure.

In fact, since the rioters are targeting the federal government, filling social media with talk of war and killing people, etc. there's really not much stopping Trump from labeling them as domestic terrorists and authorizing the use of force. The president ain't the LAPD. Foolish to encourage them.
June 9, 2025 at 9:11 PM
Trump is not going to have a hard time making an insurrection case, no matter how much you loathe him. The protesters are explicitly targeting a federal agency and explicitly threatening its personnel. This isn't 2020. Folks here are pushing naive, emo kids into stuff that will destroy their lives.

One of the arguments against lax immigration enforcement is that it creates a giant marketplace for bad actors, from coyotes exploiting people financially (or sexually) to get across the border to fake/dirty/incompetent lawyers posing as immigration law sherpas.
What a disturbingly intricate scam: Immigrants end up paying thousands of dollars and attending fake virtual immigration hearings over many months—all the while jeopardizing their real immigration cases by missing the real hearings.
Fake Immigration Courts Take Advantage of Immigrants Desperate for Answers
Immigrants seeking legal help online to protect themselves from Trump’s deportation plans are increasingly falling prey to costly scams.

No, you just don't understand that both of them are trolling you. He loves having liberals shriek omg literally Hitler while praising people setting cars on fire and looting businesses. He's been walking internet scolds around on this exact same leash for a decade now. He's laughing at you.
something that started with signalgate and continues here is that trump clearly does not understand (can't/won't is a different q) that he is actually in charge. like, "tom" (homan) does not get to make that decision, you do, you're the president
"I would do it if I were Tom. I think it's great" -- Trump endorses the arrest of Gov. Gavin Newsom

Bet this was done by a bunch of hipsters with no connection to the war, too. It has throwing tomato soup on priceless art just to pretend your life has meaning vibes.
This is what we're talking about when we say it's antisemitic to conflate all Jews everywhere with the actions of the Israeli govt.

Defacing a memorial to the 1/3 of world Jewry that Hitler slaughtered won't free Palestine, but it does tell me a lot about you.

My dad is a Vietnam veteran, and this was not a "myth," lol.
I have to imagine Trump’s obsession with people spitting on soldiers is tied to that persistent myth about guys coming back from Vietnam in the 1960s.

It's interesting to see how many lawyers and law professors are comically wrong on matters of law, too. Like just flat-out making stuff up to please some terminally online ecosystem. These folks are perpetually confused because they trust a bad actor.

The weirdest aspect of Bluesky isn't the infighting, or the omg you disagree with me so you're blocked (which started right at the beginning), but the need to communicate in slogans. It's exactly how I imagined a communist rally.
June 9, 2025 at 6:33 PM
Bluesky is mostly the same rage bait personalities sharing their friends from Twitter sharing them. There's not much to "discover" here. It's less like Twitter than Boomers on Facebook, but liberal.
Bluesky's model hinges on the expectation that someone is going to spawn in to Bluesky with elaborate knowledge about how the platform works, immediately find a custom feed that doesn't suck or follow 200+ people out of thin air. Instead, they open the Discover feed, go "this is shit" and leave. 3/3

Trot out all the people Trump has defeated at the polls. This is super fun.
Gov. Newsom didn't request the National Guard be deployed to CA following peaceful demonstrations. Trump sent them anyway. It's the first time in 60 years a president has made that choice.

Trump's goal isn't to keep Californians safe. His goal is to cause chaos, because chaos is good for Trump.
June 9, 2025 at 6:21 PM
Well, someone probably should have told the California National Guard that.

This whole debate is pretty dumb since the logical end of it is that states will never have to participate in war or national security if it's inconvenient. Seems like a fun thing to argue up to SCOTUS.

Every political campaign has armies of sock puppet accounts, but what's the gotcha when he posted that under his real name? Half the people on this platform are talking about arresting him while blathering about norms and fascism. It's a grand joke all around.

We are not in this position because of Trump. We are in this position because the Biden administration gave millions of people from fragile backgrounds a meaningless legal status that has not survived the scrutiny of the courts. Obama didn't behave that way because he wasn't a prop.

Americans are not going to accept lectures on the nature of citizenship from people they'd never want living in their own neighborhoods.
June 9, 2025 at 6:01 PM
Kamala Harris lost because Americans associate California liberals with garbage behavior, a complete absence of civic pride, and dysfunction so powerfully that even billions of dollars of advertising can't brainwash them out of it. It's insane to keep promoting this stuff.
June 9, 2025 at 5:58 PM
No, they are dancing on the grave of the Democratic Party because the party can't get the feral child wing under control. You've nuked any respectability the pro-immigration crowd ever gained with violent anarchists running around with Mexican flags. Pound that kool-aid harder with your fake codes.
The MAGAs are out in full force today because their narrative is crumbling. Incredible work so proud of all of you. It’s impossible for this administration to control the narrative when everyone has a camera and access to social media.
June 9, 2025 at 5:52 PM
Man, people really have no idea why Democrats keep losing. A small county in rural Kentucky is not swinging elections. Netflix has gone conservative now. Meghan Markle is a tradwife who demands you use her husband's name. I just saw a lawyer on here calling Obama a conservative. You're cuckoo.
From 2004 to 2024, there have been dramatic shifts in the nation’s politics along geographic, racial, educational and economic lines.

Here's a look at where the vote has shifted most in that time and the story the change tells:
Breaking down 20 years of election data that shows how the two parties have evolved in the Trump era
The 2024 election was the first in two decades that saw a Republican popular vote victory. The trends since then illustrate extreme changes in the two parties.

Elon's political meltdown aside, the main reason the Cybertruck flopped was that it was ugly. If it had any of the toy-like qualities he said but looked like a curvy sportscar, every playboy would have bought one at any price. This is not a new problem in product launches.
WSJ gets into all the gory details of the Cybertruck flop, including the fact that apparently Tesla tried to make it amphibious because Elon tweeted that it would be, and they simply had to give up and redesign the whole thing when it didn't work

How the Cybertruck Came to Embody Tesla’s Problems
The electric pickup was supposed to create a halo effect for the brand, but the truck’s reputation has been tarnished by politics and production snafus.
