The story I was told was that the city paid contractors by the pound during the fight against Dutch Elm disease. That one of these contractors was driving by Logan Blvd on the Kennedy, looked over and thought, “jackpot.”

It’s always amazing when you find the pieces to explain a puzzle that’s been nagging at you for years. I’ve stared at this painting for years! Benjamin Blessum was an important artist, knighted by King Haakon VII. His works are held by institutions all over the world.
