This work is about performative control: the lie that submission is for our own good. That womanhood means servitude. That motherhood is mandatory. That silence is dignified.

At first glance, the scene may seem pastoral or reverent—but beneath the surface is something more insidious. The gold around her ankle is not adornment; it’s a shackle. The field is no sanctuary—it’s a veil of control masked as benevolence. This piece responds to the threats embodied in Project 2025, and the growing political push to strip women of autonomy. The poppies—symbols of sleep and death—are offered as gifts, yet they lull, suppress, and entrap. The smiling, obedient image of womanhood these men seek to restore is not safety—it’s erasure.

Cut paper artwork. I like to play with many artistic mediums, not just ceramics.

Yesterday in the studio.

This is a decorative tile from my nature walk collection, which also has trivets and vases.
