Day 3 of Morning Sketching: Today's Challenge was drawing animals with no eraser! I love drawing animals but I don't do it often, so this felt uncomfortable! But that's the real challenge with this exercise: pushing past the discomfort! #sketching #kidlitartist ##kidlitillustrator

Day 2 of Morning sketching: Today, I focused on drawing without using an eraser. Resisting the urge to correct "mistakes" was so hard! But eventually I got into into the flow of things and just let them happen. I tend to be a perfectionist w my art, so I think this will help me get over that..

I've been needing a reminder that my art is a practice and not a means to an end. So I've started doing morning sketching before breakfast. Just fun doodles to remember that art is supposed to be fun and doesn't have to be perfect.

When I was a little girl, I wasn't allowed to have colorful hair, but now I can give it to the little girls in my illustrations! 🎉🎉✨️

Isn't it just wonderful to let your imagination run wild?

I tried to capture that feeling in this illustration. Did I succeed?

I'm not someone who believes that life has to get less colorful as we age.. I hope I'm even bolder and quirkier when my hair turns all white!... #kidlitbooks #illustragram #illustrationartists #kidlitillustration

Update to an old Ariel fanart piece I did a couple years ago. Always interesting to see how my art has changed over time!

I'm loving experimenting with grayscale illustrations right now. I'm normally all about color but it's nice to explore something different once in a while

The other day, I asked myself what Rapunzel would look like if her story was set in the Caribbean. This is my illustration of her so far. What do you think of her hair?#kidlitartist #kidlitillustrator #kidlitillustration #kidlitbooks

Some news! I've been working on some other picture book ideas alongside my tiger story. "I Don't Wanna Be Cute!" follows an 8-year-old girl named Kiyanna who suddenly decides that all her clothes are too cute and that she wants to be "sophisticated" instead.. #kidlit #kidlitart #kidlitillustrator

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dads out there, especially the ones who encourage the children's natural creativity. That's what I wanted to show in this illustration. Hope you like it!

I knew that I had to illustrate this children’s book as soon as I read the first page of the manuscript! It’s a beautiful and heartwarming story about the historical and cultural importance of hair in black communities across the world.

‘If My Hair Had A Voice,’ a picture book I illustrated last year, is on sale from today! Written by Dana Marie Miroballi (@noshesthebear), it tells the story of Kimya, a biracial girl who’s on a quest to understand and appreciate her natural, afro-textured hair.
