If the only thing his system remembers by default is a command that clashes with what he wants (humans and androids are enemies vs sharing his life and future with Veritas, his "dear dawn"), then it is a totally useless and worthless memory to him and he will overwrite it somehow.

But, what he does know is that deep down he really wants to protect this human (with eyes tinted with the most radiant dawn) as much as he can.

Perhaps not just as a strategic partner or someone who saved him? And why the association with the "dawn" if he doesn't know what it is?

And Churin, after a while of deliberation and deep thought, ends up reaching a conclusion similar to Veri's.

Perhaps he doesn't remember anything before the "misfortune" and the "formatting", nor who this huge and kind human is, nor what he means to him.

This time he almost lost his most loved and important person forever, he won't let it happen again if he can avoid it.

But he won't let his loved one be locked away and lose his freedom and free will, he's already been through that with other humans, before meeting him.

And he'll do everything he can to protect his beloved gambler (Sunday's shelter and the owner can go to hell, they don't need them. He can use his brain and come up with something better to keep them both safe), just as Churin had done in the past for the scholar, using his luck.

Veri sees the emotional conflict and sense of loss in those beautiful, dusk-colored eyes that he didn't know he'd miss until he nearly lost their owner forever.

He may not be exactly the Aventurine he remembers, and he doesn't remember him... but he's still his beloved gambler.

But he's not seeing that in this human.

He's seeing care, affection, kindness, patience, and devotion (is that sadness and regret in those eyes?) directed at... HIM, even when his system concludes that this person should have been his enemy.
January 1, 2025 at 7:51 PM
But he doesn't understand why he would do that (and show so much care for him), since the only thing his system knows and "remembers" by default, is that there is a conflict between humans and androids in the world, which should turn them into enemies.

Churin instinctively trusts Ratio and somehow inexplicably feels a connection with him as soon as he sees him.

Of course he understands that something happened to him that must have erased all his memories and that this kind and gentle human fixed him.

Once Churin awakens, he is no longer exactly who Veri remembers so fondly (something the scholar sadly knew would happen, but it was the only way to save him before it was too late), and yet he manages to retain behaviors that Veri has come to recognize as "unique" to Churin.

(his system could not properly read the backup containing his previous memories as it ended up damaged enough to fail, essentially forcing Veri to completely reset his memory before the damage worsened irreparably)

And he will stop at nothing to save his dearest one, no matter how long it takes or how much effort it takes, and even if Churin doesn't remember him or more specifically how important Veri is to him.
