among all the sports coverage of trans women in swimming, you know what I didn't see a single time?

stats.

sports reporting is obsessed with stats. until its a trans lady then suddenly they forget swim times exist

because it showed that they were swimming slower than other women
when Michael Phelps was dominating US swimming there was endless coverage of all his genetic advantages. His wingspan, the way his body processed lactic acid, on and on and on. Nobody, not one person, floated the idea of kicking him out of the sport for genetic advantages
“I just have concerns about fairness in sport” - no, you don’t. There’s nothing fair about elite sports. You’re just looking for post hoc justification because we give you the ick

"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

I keep thinking of things I "forgot" to do when I first got home, and then I realize that I didn't forget, I just only got home from MA today and immediately went back out to a Newtype Challenge because I'm stubborn 😑

if NPC dialogue in a game is unimportant or boring, one of two things is happening:

1. someone did a bad job writing it
2. you didn't appreciate it, for whatever reason

don't put sawdust in your bread on purpose for fuck's sake

So a lot of us woke up this morning to an email informing us that OMENS OF CHAOS (have you pre-ordered yet?) had been pushed from February 2026 to April 2026. People are understandably confused, not thrilled, and expressing both these things to me. So here's what I can say.

Proposing the term "badgering" to refer to "when an application puts up a badge on its icon indicating an unread notification, but fails to make it clear where the badge originates from and/or fails to remove the badge when all obvious sources of the notification have been checked"

Engagement KPIs have been responsible for infinite scroll UI traps, RecSys radicalization spirals, public shame brigades, and basically every modern ailment novel to the past decade. At some point, you have to recognize that the problem isn't any one technology, it's the metric.
The company essentially turned a dial that made ChatGPT more appealing and made people use it more, but sent some of them into delusional spirals.

OpenAI has since made the chatbot safer, but that comes with a tradeoff: less usage.
