I agree-- the county has focused on missing middle to the exclusion of planning for new housing (apartments and condos) in obvious places like at East Falls Church. One big building can contain more homes than all of missing middle.

The most affordable new homes in Arlington are usually condos and I spend a lot of time advocating for the legalization of new condos

They are for people who might not be able to afford a 2.4M house, which is the price of the average new house in Arlington.

Still extremely high, but that's because we have a huge housing shortage.

No, the county does this on purpose. They want everything zoned super low so that developers have to negotiate with the county for "community benefits" and other gimmes that the county can extract.

Of course the real community benefit is the new housing and they should zone proactively.

I hope you're right.

And if so, then they should tell the planners to fix the planning so that this doesn't happen again. Apartments in Rosslyn are fine and shouldn't need special permission. This one has been in the pipeline for years. What a waste of time.
