Reference archivist, legal historian, medievalist. She/her. Knows more than is healthy about the history of trial by combat.
I’m flashing back to that time in 2015 we elected a progressive Ismaili candidate of Ugandan extraction, and the entire political establishment did NOT lose their flippin’ minds. NY Repubs & centrist Dems should be embarrassed by the campaigns they’ve run.

The word on the street is that the WOTS is good this year, but don’t just take my word for it.

Am I doing this right?

No context anglerfish.

I wonder if thirteenth-century Circassian saddles looked like present-day ones? In that case, it could be some word for high, or cushioned. What’s the text? I’d like to read something that mentions Circassians that early.

Looks like the local Coast Guard station have a Facebook page and a phone number where we can share our thoughts with them.

Oh look, they have a Facebook page and a phone number.

Under this Facebook post, a commenter (not pictured) asks obliquely why certain boats on the lake have their AIS turned off. The comment is around the same time that the CGC Hawser is alleged to have been in Canadian waters.

The sidewalk just south of that intersection was a huge peeve of mine when I lived in the neighbourhood. The east side feels unsafe because cars whip in and out of the plaza at any point in a 150m stretch, but the west side is so narrow that one stroller can block the whole thing.

Happy Saturday, American friends!

I am prepared for this moment.

There’s another version of this scene a few kilometres away in the Petruskerk in Woldendorp. I feel like this may be about a local legend, perhaps involving the intervention of a saint. #medievalsky

Look at these medieval guys having a trial by combat! I’ve never seen an image like this before. Throwing spears with fletching? Lamellar skirts? It’s from a church in the northern Netherlands, 14th c., but thought to be based on a 12th-century example.

Repost with a photo of yours that would make a good album cover.

Seen just now: three pallets of unsold American booze on their way back where they came from.

We could maybe sell them with some absolutely bonkers victory bond rallies, like the one that was held in Toronto in 1918.

It’s going to be A Week on social media. I intend to log right out of all my personal accounts tonight and stay away until next Sunday. Nobody gets to make money off of my doomscrolling. Contact me by traditional means if you need metaphorical ammo or a ride in the meantime.

The record for the worst CO2 levels went to the panel on Monarchy in Literature. If you felt your eyelids getting heavy, it wasn’t because the panellists were dull. You were just breathing everyone else’s backwash.

The Fun Stuff panel @canconsffh.bsky.social was great, but the ventilation in Salon C was Very Bad Indeed. Reconsidering how many more panels I go to this weekend.

That looks like it was made by the same contractor who did the signs at the City Archives. So it could be anything, really.

Good information hygiene is much the same skill set as History 101, just applied to the present day. Elsewhere on social media, the UN is attempting to teach people Humanities for #AccessToInfoDay today.

This meal just cost me $78 at Newark Airport. This is why Americans think the economy is terrible.
