I'm glad to hear everything's going well! I'd like to ask if I could interview you, by text or voice, whichever you prefer. I'm the project manager for We Are Mass Effect, and we'd love to chat with you and ask you a few questions, though we know you can't say much :)

Hey Daniel, I saw that you deleted your Instagram account. I hope everything’s okay. I just wanted to say that even if a few crazy people say otherwise, the entire Mass Effect community supports you, and we’re really looking forward to the series you’re working on :)

There's so much more about Kovir and Poviss I'd love to cover, like their history, but maybe for another thread. But one thing it's clear: Kovir and Poviss have insane storytelling potential for The Witcher 4.

I can't wait to see what CD Projekt does with these lands 👀

Thanks to its mines, gigantic port (Lan Exeter), and maritime control, Kovir is by far the wealthiest northern kingdom. Not a military supepower, but with a well-funded, efficient defense, focused on protecting trade.

Kovir never meddled in neighborly wars, dynastic schemes, or land grabs. Their ambitions? The "Mare Liberum Apertum" a free, open sea for commerce. As Sapkowski writes, Kovir followed the religion of profit, commerce, and unshakable neutrality.

United under one dynasty, they were once seen as a mere "appeandage" to bigger kingdoms, until their wealth made them a power in their own right.

Kovir and Poviss:

Kovir and Poviss are among the richest and most stable realms in the North, yet also famously non-belligerent. Kovir is mountainous, coastal, full of mines and ports; Poviss is more flat and agricultural.

Historically, Lan Exeter isn't just about commerce. It's where the First Treaty of Lan Exeter was signed, granting Kovir its independence from the northern powers, a turning point for the independence of the kingdom.

Naturally, the widest facade belonged to the royal winter residence, the Palace of Ensenada. When Dijkstra visits in the books, he describes an entrance with a huge pediment and grand sculptures, a statement of Kovir's extravagance.
June 26, 2025 at 5:40 PM
In Lan Exeter, taxes were paid based on the width of a building's facade. The wider, the higher the tax, so some greedy merchants actually made their house narrower because of this law.

The city's canals work as a grand system with the Grand Canal at its heart, running straight from the port to the monarch's palace. Noble palaces and merchant mansions line the waterways, showcasing the city's wealth, all fueled by active trade.

Lan Exeter:

The "winter capital" of Kovir and Poviss, Lan Exeter becomes home to the roal court each winter (while Pont Vanis is the summer capital). Unlike other cities on the Continent, Lan Exeter is built on the estuary of the river Tango, there's not streets, only canals!
