The fence is long gone and whoever removed it, snipped the metal as close to the tree as they could. But, somehow, the tree looks happy. So I asked yesterday’s participants to respond to this tree, with the following in mind: why are trees so great for cities / why are cities so bad for trees?

…as we walked around, looking at everything: the trees, the stream that flowed through both properties, the stands of bur oak, the footbridge that connects them, the big old willow closest to the pool. But this tree caught me, snagging me on the chain link it had once grown through.
