Never have heard it yet but they can make a buzzing sound. I should search for a recording. Anyphaena accentuata #Aractober

#Aractober 23 is the wine cellar spider, the smaller, posher, version of the common cellar spider. Psilochorus simoni. Silent P or S? @britishspiders.bsky.social Does the name refer to bare headed spiders that group together? I assume they don't have a tendency to sing opera 😊

Yesterday's #Aractober is this epigyne. After last weekends ID session giving the Linys another go. Still working out what it is so any help would be appreciated!

#Aractober. Segestria cf. bavarica (juv) from the shed door. This one decided to sprint up my jumper sleeve! Tbh it's not the first time it's happened.
Think I managed to shake it out😂

1/2 Looking for Badumna!
Over the past two weeks this Aussie has been spotted at stores from Barry, Cardiff, Brecon and Llandudno! When visiting any local store type mini garden section could you check for Badumna? The webs are easy to spot. Take a picture and add to the feed for ID help.

Still plenty to be found. The web has a missing sector that helps with getting towards an ID. #Aractober Zygiella x-notata. I just call them Z X

Busy and enjoying day at Cardiff Museum for a spider ID course with K.Slade @sewbrec.org.uk , R.Gallon and T.Dallimore. Nice to meet a mix of people new and from previous events. Great fun but professional.
Easy ID for today's #Aractober, Steatoda nobilis

#Aractober Local garden centre, friendly staff that don't mind me looking around. Always plenty of Uloborus plumipes there.

ID help needed for #Aractober today. Think this Harvestman is Sabacon? Found under some wood in a darkly wooded area. @megabunus.bsky.social Again with my glasses! Should have been better photos so understandable if ID is difficult.

No 15 and halfway ish there #Aractober it's the appropriately named 'black bummed money spider' Ostearius melanophygius @britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social

Driving through Cardiff decided to visit a few stores with outside garden plant sections. In Rumney B&M and Cardiff Bay Home Bargains was able to find more B.longinqua, a few webs in the first but no spiders. 2nd had lots of webs, juv and possibly adult. @britishspiders.bsky.social @sewbrec.org.uk

Shaken from bamboo today it's Tetragnatha, Long jawed orbweb spider. The sternum patterns can help divide them into two groups. T.extensa/pinicola have a yellow triangle, the others plain brown. #Aractober This one showing the classic pose

Found lots of tiny juv. ant mimics amongst pea gravel today. At least one looks like Phrurolithus festivus to me @britishspiders.bsky.social #Aractober
October 13, 2025 at 8:12 PM
From the same location as yesterday. Two very much most likely Drassodes sp (Haplodrassus look similar) Varying from a pale toffee to a more velvety mahogany colour, doesn't really show in the pictures #Aractober The median eyes help separate them from the Clubiona

#Aractober Woodlouse spider, Dysdera crocata. An adult male. Not great palp shots. Has femora spines, garden find plus at 11mm it's not going to be D erythrina. For more ID tips visit srs.britishspiders.org.uk/portal.php/p...

Platnickina tincta. Mostly juv. this time of year. Easy to find amongst ivy in my area. Have used an older photo of a more mature one as they are tiny atm. #Aractober

Definitely the smallest sub/adult non money spider I've yet found. Almost passed it by but the spinnerets caught my attention. Need someone to confirm ID pls @britishspiders.bsky.social Hahnia sp. Possibly H.nava as long hairs on the abdomen? New for me. #Aractober @tylanberry.bsky.social

Lots of money spiders, linyphiidae, today. All the males were ballooning. Females seemed to be staying put. In one pic you can just see a toothed carapace. Also included someone having a spider lunch. Didn't keep any for ID but did find something new for me. Will check it for tomorrows #Aractober
October 8, 2025 at 3:39 PM
Yep, outside plant section on the central shelving. You can easily see the webs. Take a few of the black topper caps (pic) and look inside. S.b in the high street and surrounding streets, may be at B&M Look for the retreats with trip wires on fences, brick/stone work. Can be tricky to get out.

A suprise find, plus a new species for me today #Aractober First noticed the distinctive web, exactly as described. Quick look and there they were... Badumna longinqua. Lots of webs in the Barry B&M, guessing another location for S.Wales. @britishspiders.bsky.social @sewbrec.org.uk @cofnod.org.uk
October 7, 2025 at 6:59 PM
Surprise find while looking at a stone wall for a theradid. One of the Otter spiders, Pirata/Piratula, a juv. male. They are mostly associated with wet habitats. #Aractober

Another Harvestman for today's #Aractober. This time Dicranopalpus cf ramosus with it's distinctive forked palps and resting leg position. If you want to find out more info visit harvestmen.fscbiodiversity.uk
October 5, 2025 at 5:43 PM
#Aractober. Today it's a harvestman, L.blackwalli (correct me if wrong pls) Only about 30 species in the UK. One fused body part, many have long thing legs, 2 eyes and no silk.
