Unfamiliar with the hymn “Welcome Home” that the choir just sang in #LDS #GeneralConference, I looked it up. It’s a new hymn recently added to our hymnbook. I love its message! I hope our people will seek to welcome all, instead of clinging to an “us versus them” mentality.

“God is Love” is such a wonderful choice for a #GeneralConference musical number. Beautiful message that we always need to be reminded of!

President Johnson shared an image of a new sculpture of the 5 wise virgins at temple square. She said in the parable, they do not share their lamp oil, but they do share their light, an interesting twist on the old story that invites new meaning. #LDS #GeneralConference

Elder Holland related a moving story about a boy with muscular dystrophy passing the Sacrament. I’m so glad male children of all abilities are invited to participate in this sacred rite, and look forward to the day when the same is true for our girls. #LDS #GeneralConference

BYU graduate and Exponent II board member Katie Ludlow Rich cried yesterday when she saw this current exhibit about @TheExponent for #WomensHistoryMonth. (BYU has had a complicated relationship with #feminism.) #lds

When #lds church leaders created Exponent II in the 70s, they thought the text was ok but the art was subversive. But the art was pretty benign, so what was up? Margaret Olsen Hemming theorizes that Exponent art was subversive because it was art, and art has the potential to move us.

When historian Martha Sonntag Bradley-Evans was selected to lead her university’s honor program, a detractor said, “No, not her. She’s a #Mormon housewife.” Martha says that is one of the best things about her. Be authentic, she says, if you’re a Mormon housewife, own it. #LDS

Judy Dushku compares the feminist lens to a 10-year-old walking in on their parents having sex. You’ll never see the world in the same way again! #lds

Since #LDS church leaders recently reinstated the strict “day and night” garment-wearing rule that they had wisely deleted in 2019, I’ve been thinking about why they would take such a backward step. Here are my guesses. exponentii.org/blog/3-other...

Blogger April Young-Bennett lists three reasons church leaders might be choosing to enforce a strict garment-wearing mandate, even if garments may not be effective at reminding people of Jesus Christ ...

I stopped at 9; it seemed like a neat stopping point, since 9 also happens to be the number of General-level callings LDS women are allowed to hold (compared to over 100 for men). But tell me, what did I miss? What would you add to this list? exponentii.org/blog/9-women...
9 Barriers to Leadership for the 9 Women Leaders of the LDS Church ^ Exponent II Blog
Blogger April Young-Bennett writes that the leadership potential of LDS women leaders "is crippled by a system designed to elevate men’s voices, priorities and choices over women’s."

I’m so intrigued by this trailer. When I was a LDS missionary, I would have loved to knock on Hugh Grant’s door. I totally would’ve come in and gotten trapped in his house. I hope it doesn’t disappoint!

LDS women leaders are outranked and outnumbered in the councils of the church, selected by and accountable to men, and have no direct reports. How can they lead? I had a great discussion about it with David Boyce and Peggy Fletcher Stack at the @sltrib.com

#PresidentOaks used his #LDS #GeneralConference talk to explain that personal freedom does not apply to underwear. The map he shared reminds me that church leaders continue to demand 24/7 garment compliance without accommodation even in tropical regions of the world.

Amazing Grace in #GeneralConference? Is this an omen? Maybe the new hymnal will finally bring this Christian classic into the #LDS repertoire?

I appreciate #ElderCarpenter for daring to be open about sealing cancellation, a fraught topic, but he did not address the gender disparity in sealing cancellation policy, which is an important issue that needs to be addressed in the #LDS church. #GeneralConference

#ElderCarpenter says no one will be trapped in a sealing to an “unrepentant” former spouse, even without a cancellation. I think he was also saying they will not trapped with a repentant person they still want to divorce, but this part was less clear. #GeneralConference
