Received the physical copies of my book last night and wow, still feels unreal to actually be able to hold it in my hand!

I am particularly pleased with how the cover art turned out.

(Promise this is the last book related post for a while).

I really can't get over how good of a turn out this was. Oxford really showed up in solidarity today!

It was an absolute pleasure to act, alongside Katie Jukes, as Guest Editor for the Queer Judgment focused special section of Amicus Curiae 7:1

The whole issue is available open access and available at the link below!

Enjoyed a peaceful walk around Lund today before heading back to the UK. It has been a really enriching couple of days discussing queer asylum globally.

Wonderful to be at Lund University for the Queer(y)ing Asylum symposium 2025.

looking forward to presenting my paper 'Performative Cruelty: Far-Right Logics and the UK Asylum system' tomorrow.

Autumn has definitely landed on campus

And, just like that, a chapter closes. After 5 years at Oxford Brookes today is my last day. I am grateful for the wonderful colleagues I have had over the past 5 years but also excited to meet new colleagues as I start at the University of Warwick tomorrow.

One last view from my office window.

About to give my last ever lecture at Oxford Brookes. A real pleasure that this last lecture comes as a part of the Jean Monnet Summer School in Migration and Refugee Studies, given that one of my Brookes highlights has been being part of the Migration and Refugees Research Network.

Wonderful to be at the Society of Legal Studies Annual conference at the University of Leeds and to be co-convening the Migration and Asylum section which as always has a diverse range of papers covering some fundamental and highly topical issues.

Come and join us if you're at the conference.

Trying to have a slower pace for the last couple of weeks of summer after some quite frantic attempts at writing. Enjoying my morning coffee in a local coffee shop and putting together a to-do list for the remaining days until the semester feels a good start.

Following my vote for Zack as leader I then voted for @rachelmillward.bsky.social as my first preference for Deputy Leader.

Rachel has experience of leading a council and has repeatedly shown her ability to effectively communicate a message of hope.

Proud to have cast my vote for @zackpolanski.bsky.social as the next leader of the Green Party. At this moment, the UK faces the greatest far-right threat since the 1930s and a bold strategy is urgently needed for those of us on the left to turn anger into hope.

Also saw the most amazing blood moon on the way home, which made for a very atmospheric Cowley Road.

I continue to be struck by the open, inclusive and activist community of this city. It's been a really lovely day!

Amazing to join with thousands of others at Oxford Pride today. Political parties were (rightly) banned. So we attended as people, friends and local representatives to march in solidarity with all queer people but particularly the trans community. Pride is a protest. Trans rights are human rights.

Out on the doors of East Oxford today supporting @greenpartyemma.bsky.social @emilykerr36.bsky.social for Oxfordshire County Council today. Two amazing candidates who will make phenomenal County Councillors!

Been out this evening delivering Eve of poll leaflets to people across East Oxford. Fantastic to see so many people across Oxford planning to vote Green. Behind the narratives of a Reform election are thousands of people disillusioned with a Labour party who promised change and broke their word.
April 30, 2025 at 8:21 PM
Very proud of Oxford today making its support for Trans Rights so clear and so vocal.

This is so far 'beyond the pale' and contempt proceedings need to be brought immediately if any faith in the Rule of Law in the US is to be retained.

What a fantastic SLSA2025. It was really wonderful to see so many amazing colleagues in Liverpool. It was particularly valuable to be around other socio-legal and critical scholars in the context of the Supreme Court decision and to feel that solidarity. A few of my highlights from the conference:

Thrilled to be in Liverpool for #SLSA2025. In keeping with my brand (of doing stupid amounts of too much) I am involved in 4 panels/papers across the week. Looking forward to catching up with Friends and colleagues across the week.

Great to be out campaigning in the sun with @emmagarnett.bsky.social across Parks/St Clement's today. Some really lovely positive conversations from residents excited to have the chance to vote for a real local champion 💚☀️🌳

You really can't beat this time of year for seeing sunsets over the city from South Park!
