Such a great few days at the #MaryRobinson conference in Ballina. Inspiring talks (particularly from @hannahdaly.ie & @elainemcgoff.bsky.social), engaging workshops & lots of good conversations. Feeling simultaneously overwhelmed & revived! Thank you sincerely to the organisers for a great meeting.

My companion for the train journey to Ballina for the Mary Robinson Climate & Nature Conference. I *highly* recommend it. Every time I’ve read a few pages these past few weeks my brain has fired off in different directions around our history, our current relationships with land & abiding traditions.

As I cuddle in my children this weekend my heart is sore for the parents in Gaza who cannot feed their babies, toddlers & children due to the Israeli blockade of supplies.
I am so frustrated at political leaders across the EU doing nothing to stop it.
Shame on us all.

Fabulous example of a pond in the Hare’s Corner - such a rich way to promote biodiversity - in Co Clare @commonknowledge.bsky.social Some county councils have funding for you to create your own pond with @burrenbeotrust.bsky.social 🌱🌾🕷️🐞

Such a pleasure to have visited @commonknowledge.bsky.social in Co Clare, see all of the fantastic heritage work they’re doing & speak to locals about nature restoration with Aine from @burrenbeotrust.bsky.social
So much great community work around environment happening across the country! 🌳🐝🪶🙋🏻‍♀️

Highlight of the school Easter holidays (for me) was my 6yo making his own mancala game…and then beating me EVERY SINGLE TIME. I should, perhaps, be worried about his capacity for strategy, but I’m chuffed for him 😄

To my shame I haven’t taken the time to read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for a long while. The environment one only recently declared & absent from this, but highly recommend the Hugh Lane Gallery for a wet afternoon!

How developers are allowed to get away with this across the country is beyond me 🤯 The health & safety hazards for kids are mind boggling in our place.
My mammy head isn’t going to let this one go until it’s fixed. 🔨

Hoping #speirgorm can help me here as we’re about to start a push with the local council to enforce a developer bond to finish an estate (ten years on and a developer who is a millionaire but has zero intention of finishing the job). Any examples anywhere of a council/estate that has done this?

About to go on Countrywide on RTE1 to discuss the Nature Restoration Plan with some of our core stakeholders #naturerestoration
March 29, 2025 at 8:03 AM
A great hum of conversations from over 60 national organisations discussing draft principles & vision for Ireland’s Nature Restoration Plan. Delighted we can employ deliberative democracy style process to inform this work!

Coffee at the ready for today’s Leaders’ Forum - the first of the core stakeholder engagement events that will inform the drafting of Ireland’s Nature Restoration Plan. (Also eschewing the car as I’m now inculcated to public transport after 5 weeks without it 😄) 🌳🌊🌾🐦‍⬛🦈

At a time where democracy & deliberative democracy processes seem more important than ever, I’m delighted to be asked to speak to the Dutch Climate Assembly today about Ireland’s Citizens Assembly on Biodiversity Loss. #citizensassembly

Little story from our no car trips (nearly 3 weeks now!) - a lovely Luas ticket inspector ‘checked’ my boys’ tickets with his special star cutter ⭐️. My 4yo (who didn’t need a ticket) absolutely thrilled with getting one AND getting stars.
The guy should get a prize for brightening everyone’s day 🚊

My third time back to it with the kids & every time they’ve gravitated towards something different. Highly recommend it if you’ve some time to spare. Great space to think about the slow violence we’ve been inflicting on the environment (phrase from one of the exhibits).

The section exploring climate change at IMMA is fantastic. These photos by Pamela Singh of the Chipko tree hugging movement are so moving - activists who saved their forest by highlighting the interdependence between humans & nature. daily.jstor.org/the-tree-hug...

Heading in to our first meeting of the Independent Advisory Committee on Nature Restoration this morning. The actions we take to protect and restore nature will not only protect our food & water systems, also help with climate mitigation across the country. #naturerestoration

The bliss of being at home with the parents, which means there are extra hands available for the kiddies, which means I can sit & read a book (for the first time this year!) As an added bonus, it’s a fantastic, un-put-downable read.

Did a short workshop with 5th & 6th class in my son’s school on the Citizens’ Assembly on Biodiversity Loss. The recommendations they came up with after an hour were superb!
It’s for their generation we should ensure we do the best job we can implementing the new EU Nature Restoration Law 🌳🐟🦊

So very proud of Dr Róisín Neururer who graduated from UCD this evening! It was a privilege supervising her work & I’m looking forward to her future publications & research impact 🙌🏼 Thank you to @researchireland.bsky.social & UCD Maths/Stats for funding her studies.

My little boy's creche class were learning about professions.
I got to visit them and explain some of the EU Nature Restoration Law work I'll be doing 🐝
How to describe my role to 4yos? "I help people make decisions about protecting the environment"
Hope I can bring their enthusiasm with me! 🌳🌍
