Few classics covers seem satisfactory when you've read the book before. IMO Tom Jones needs C18th landscape with something like a Benny Hill chase scene incl many characters. (If any other ageing Brits here to know the reference.) I find these the least-worst/relatively evocative #acontinuation25

It also returns to the sense of looming the original hardcover had (the first edition I read, several times). Apocalyptic wasn't quite as big a presence in the novel as this image suggested, but it was there, and more than the covers between these two suggested, which just evoked street-level sleaze

From the call of Stuart Maconie's Select review & the guy in the record shop delighted that 1 person had finally bought it nearly a week after release & waiting over a decade to meet anyone else who loved it - to hearing Tonight We Fly become a mass singalong for crowds of middle England gig goers.

That point in the late 90s on the UK graph where the lines overlap exactly - that was when I was at uni. And it has sadly seemed like every younger generation I've heard about since has worse double standards than we had. Plenty of people I knew didn't even *have* double standards.
