Rhythms in the body, brain and environment
4/n Finally, we delineate new emerging avenues for #multimodal, functional, #ecologically valid, and #personalized research that also integrates smart sensing technologies
July 9, 2025 at 7:48 AM
3/n We review evidence showing that neurocognitive functions are modulated by bodily signals at multiple temporal scales: from ultra-slow #circadian rhythm to #gastrointestinal, #cardiac and #respiratory activity.
July 9, 2025 at 7:48 AM
2/n We try to address new questions about if and how #autonomic functioning, the coordination of #interoception and exteroception, #lifestyle and #dietary choices, #gut #microbiome composition, #hormonal cycles, and #inflammation can impact behaviour, general #health and #wellbeing.

5/n We suggest that #hypersensitivity to loudness changes may underlie IwPD’s difficulties in processing and adapting their voice acoustics.

4/n Mixed model analyses showed that IwPD displayed hypersensitivity (larger N100 error responses) to unexpected loudness modulations as compared to HC. This observation suggests that IwPD may process voice modulations differently than HC.

3/n Here, we recorded #EEG from IwPD and matched controls while they engaged in a voice playback paradigm with three conditions: self-generated (hear the voice when you tap), externally generated (no tap), and loudness manipulation (+15dB).

2/n We hypothesized that difficulties may arise from compromised sensory #feedback: the inability to efficiently process, predict and adapt to sensory input during speech, may impact the capacities to monitor and adjust parameters such as loudness, pitch, and articulation

A systematic review on autonomic dysfunctions in Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a complex array of motor and non-motor symptoms. Abundant experimental research has explored the behavioral and neural correla...

3/n Overall, we find strong convergence for an imbalance of #sympathetic and #parasympathetic activity, suggesting a central role of autonomic dysfunctions on PD pathogenesis.
These observations call for integrative, individualized and longitudinal #body-#brain research

2/n Most studies (85%) show #cardiovascular changes, along with dysfunctions in #breathing (15%; frequency and resistance), #olfaction (hyposmia - anosmia), #skin (9%; thermoregulation and pilomotor functions), #sleep (15%; RSWA, iRBD, SAS), and #circadian (9%) regulation
