In related news, yesterday I started work on my first cover-up in about twenty years of getting tattooed and I'm pretty happy about where we're headed (artist is Jennifer Trok at Deluxe, I got a bit of flash on my arm from her last month and then set up this project, she's perfect for it)

FYI if you buy two books at the table at the Music Box's Lynch series you get this rad magnet, going to slap it directly in the middle of my fridge so I can give the act of getting a sparkling water a real cosmic evil sort of vibe

Seeing a lot lately about the use of tools to skip the bothersome work of creativity and it reminds me of one of my favorite passages from Chuck Jones's CHUCK REDUCKS when he describes what he learned from Charlie Chaplin reshooting a 15-second running scene 132 times in a row.
Highlighted passage on a book page: "It was the the beginning of my understanding of the two primary rules of all creativity. The first is that you must love what you are doing; the second is that you must be willing to do the often dull and tiring work necessary to bring each creative endeavor to completion, and in that endeavor only the love should show. It took Chaplin more than a hundred takes a thousand times to bring his incredible craft to the screen he loved so well, and never, never did the work show."

Struzan also painted a myriad of sci-fi/fantasy book covers that comprised at least 50% of my reading as a teenager. His Twitter account was a delight. I hope he feels all the well-deserved love and appreciation moving his way.
