A very interesting analysis of The Thing
There's some discourse on The Other App about John Carpenter's THE THING not having any women in it (it does, it's The Thing), and @michaelkennedy.bsky.social put this article on my radar that not only rocks, but references a piece I wrote from 2015 about the topic!

Everything I Know About Men I Learned From 'The Thing'
The Thing, John Carpenter’s 1982 horror classic, is a slippery little number. It seems like a horror movie about a bunch of cooped-up researcher science...

Let me be clear, we're in a perilous moment in this country.

Donald Trump is taking away our economic and civil rights — and Americans are feeling helpless and powerless.

It's time to step out of your comfort zone, into the streets, and make your voice heard.

Biggest mistakes I'm seeing in early reporting (thread):

1. Tariffmageddon isn't over: Lotsa tariffs to account for, but the average tariff rate is only down around one quarter. So most of the pain of Liberation Day is still with us.

No one in the history of the Constitution of the United States has sworn an oath to the President. No one has sworn an oath to do what the President tells them if it violates the Constitution OR the law in any oath they have taken.

If anyone knows any active-duty military personnel (as well as law-enforcement, lawyers, congressional representatives, or judges), now is the time to remind them that they ALL swore an oath to the Constitution (if not one to actively protect and defend said Constitution).

I saw someone criticizing a very funny poster for making jokes instead of posting about politics, and I am reminded of a favorite line from E. B. White: We should strive not for balanced books but balanced libraries

I mean, sometimes it is as simple as 2+2=4.
Someone pulled this up from the recesses of the Internet, I think I originally posted it nearly a decade ago, and it's still true

I know he may deserve a low-ish bar, but it was kinda nice seeing Tony Kornheiser vigorously waving a little Canadian flag 🇨🇦 at the sign off of a recent ESPN show.

I cannot emphasize enough: without due process it is impossible to say whether someone has violated the law or not.
Due process is a basic guarantee of individual liberty.
Indiana Rep Spartz (R): “You violated the law, you are not entitled to due process.”

Dangerously ignorant. 🇺🇸
