I want to chat just a second about how long it took me to change just one white man's mind about something.
White men voted for Trump at like 70% or something but that's treated as just an immutable fact of nature.

Hello Missed Connections?
I've loved Sigourney Weaver ever since one of my all-time favorite movies, ALIEN. Couldn't resist going all fanboy on her yesterday & asking for a photo. She told me she's now in the cast of The Mandalorian. Talk about bad timing: she's now in that galaxy far, far away, years after I checked out! 💔

Heh
When I read the excerpt that Vanity Fair published (the one that everyone howled at), I assumed that no editor had laid eyes on it at all.

Turns out they had, in fact, grabbed all the most evocative passages. The (universally mocked) Vanity Fair version was all the best material.

"One helluva bean"

New tagline from the Chickpea Association
When I think about it, I realize that "90s Salad Bar" is how I encountered chickpeas for the first time! They were not part of the Midwestern White Cuisine that I'd been raised on. I was like "this is one hell of a bean, I'm in."

What kinda mess you making at the 90s Salad Bar?

What are you stuffing into your pockets to take home?
My "salad bar" salad is a base of crisp greens, cucumber slices, peas, ham, cheese, a creamy dressing like blue cheese or ranch, croutons, bac o bits.

We get Mother Jones, so I will read this in the print edition....
This is Lake Boehmer—a vast, polluted pool of sludge created by an abandoned well in the Permian Basin.

In Jan+Feb issue @motherjones.com, Molly Taft (@mollytaft.com) writes about the unlikely activists trying to clean up old wells: Republican-leaning, former oil and gas workers on TikTok

It's the wild confidence for me.

The Daily Show once had a segment mocking the NYT for producing "yesterday's news" and that's how I feel about LLMs
Once again, LLMs can’t believe reality is real.
i asked chat gpt to fact check an article for me

Oh I believe it, just like some houses and some cars
Weird Navy fact that will feel unfactual.

Some ships/submarines have bad souls.

You could change the entire crew with the best the Navy has and the ship would still operate poorly.

It’s weird.

Look up the USS Greenville, for example.

also always deeply funny that every sci-fi video game from 1999-2014 was trying to be Aliens, and copied everything except the...working class woman protagonist
Everyone imitates Tolkien all the time except when it comes to the one way it would really matter: making the protagonist of your novel for children a short, fat, 50-year-old man who doesn't want to do anything.

My guess it's a reflection of the belief system of people who think hard work is for losers, the work of others shouldn't be valued, and they can really really come out on top if they just prompt enough.
