When I think about it, I realize that "90s Salad Bar" is how I encountered chickpeas for the first time! They were not part of the Midwestern White Cuisine that I'd been raised on. I was like "this is one hell of a bean, I'm in."

My guess it's a reflection of the belief system of people who think hard work is for losers, the work of others shouldn't be valued, and they can really really come out on top if they just prompt enough.
