I have a short story in Issue 16 of @funfunfunicular.bsky.social. It's about the strange solitude of aging, featuring a good-hearted empty-nester as protagonist, and all the ways her house talks to her.

“How’d he get that power? How’s he using it? And how can it be taken off the sonofabitch?”

From David Mitchell’s “Cloud Atlas.”

I’m finishing up Cloud Atlas for the first time (much belated, I’m aware). Terrific novel, in my view. And Meronym says to Zachry, nay, humans brought The Fall upon themselves.

Amen
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you can write a story that follows all the “rules” and still get rejected. Write the stories you want to tell, the way you want to tell them, the way *only* you can tell them, and follow the rules and recommendations that help you do that better.
