We've rightly built cultures of safety, of harm reduction in our schools and industries, such that a single fatality sees a big response, and that's absolutely a good thing, that's how it should be.

But on the roads? We all just kind of collectively shrug. That's fucked up.
A crossing guard was killed by the driver of a dump truck yesterday. absolutely heartbreaking.
Look at our intersections, look how hostile these are for people/children - this is what we continue to build and defend at all costs. These aren't accidents, these are results. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

To put this into perspective, home heating accounts for 14% of the UK's carbon emissions.

So it follows that enabling households to switch from gas boilers to heat pumps is a vital aspect of tackling climate change.

This would be a big step back precisely when stepping things up is what's needed.

I do wonder if labour are just chucking ideas at the wall to see what sticks, and what the reaction is.
They just seem to be fiddling at the edges and avoiding the big issues.

In today's episode of Wes Streeting is Consistently Wrong About Everything, plucky Wes - who, you may recall, is a member of the Labour Party - takes a swing at a union. What a bellend.

It took a formal complaint filed by a constituent for Reform councillor Terry Mole to be compliant and transparent about his financial interests, and he appears to face no rebuke or sanction for having flouted the rules.

I FOI'd English councils whether they use legal land purchase powers to create traffic-free paths. Just 1% said they have successfully.

Why is something that's so common for roads almost never done for cycle routes? And what does it mean for cycling?

"In addition to seeking to lower the cost of essentials like housing, food, child care, and transportation, Wilson also emphasized the need to take bolder action to improve transit service and road safety."

Good news:

A bill in the Isle of Man's parliament to remove its bishop's voting powers has passed its final stage.

Only three other legislatures include religious clerics ex officio: Vatican City, Iran, and our own Parliament in Westminster.

It's time.
