Re-acclimating to work took a lot out of me this month, but my physical condition and energy level is finally returning to where it was before the injury.
Also these boots were a bitch to make (remesh sucked so I had to retopo), but this might be the best high poly job I've done yet.

Took a shot at a modifier stack > remesh workflow this weekend on Shani's work boots. It's a bit high poly for game ready output (25k 😬), but definitely seems to be a good workflow for lower cost retopo options when I figure out how I want to run my clothing commissions.

Have not had a chance to work on Shani this week due to life stuff. However, I did get to help run a fun little collaborative art challenge on @warfaremachine.bsky.social's discord where people used pre-selected environments to practice posing. Here's what I made during the session:

On getting back to Shani: I'm feeling a bit roadblocked on this bike helmet. I need to ditch sub-D modeling for hard surface because I'm honestly bad at it. Starting to investigate remesh workflows which should be a big speed boost on modeling when I get the hang of it.

I'll be using this blockout to develop a cheetah girl while developing my commission workflow. In the future I'll try to avoid repeat species, but for now, sticking with cat types lets me focus less on solving new design challenges and more on faster modeling and rigging methods.

Status report: Finished the 1hr sculpts after a bit of a productivity break this week. Definitely feels like I have a better awareness of how to build this head type. Really liking the results I got from this exercise, so I'll try to get in the habit of doing these more regularly.

Second round of speedsculpts, 30 minute set this time. Starting to be able to consistently make cat heads that don't look like bears. Progress 💪

Some more sculpting practice from this weekend, ordered left to right. Tried 20 minute speed sculpts from generated references to figure some issues I have with blockouts and sculpting workflow. Going to do more rounds with longer time frames over the week and see how I develop.
