In Oyster Bay NY with local hatchery folks who’re busy repopulating the Bay with unsellable (don’t call them ugly 🤨) #oysters they received from Long Island oyster farmers for #restoration through the TNC SOAR program.

NIMBY-ism is a thing all along the privileged coast of Long Island NY. Here in Montauk’s oyster hatchery: On the right a public oyster restoration initiative. Left the big mansion of a guy fighting this as it bothers the ocean view he enjoys after cutting trees in a protected forest.

Oyster Bay , Long Island. The town breaths oysters - you see them on every corner, though sadly almost all oysters in the bay have gone. I’m here to learn different perspectives on how this happened and what should be done about it.

Another day of participant observation with wild oyster monitoring by the Billion Oyster Project in New York. Getting the hang of it! This time we spot the creatures in the former landfill dumpsite of Randall’s Island. Amazing to see these wastelands come to life again. #oyster #anthropology
