Word of the (windy) day: thigmomorphogenesis. It's when plants adapt their growth depending on their physical environment.

I am pinning my hopes on it as I watch my neighbours blue cedar, which if it fell with the prevailing wind - like today - would squash my house. www.ebsco.com/research-sta...

Re-watching Ever Decreasing Circles whilst coincidentally re-watching Billions.

It feels oddly like the same show in two wildly different contexts - like Billions is the Comic Strip Presents Ever Decreasing Circles - a wildly Hollywoodized version of the premise. Have I gone mad? @markoneill.org

Rainy Sunday afternoon? Why not read a book?

Utopia Five is now available under a CC license as a PDF download www.annecurrie.com. A take on modern AI, big data, surveillance, climate change, security and everything else, in the form of a fun thriller.

Husband & I discussing whether social change really comes down to extreme right or wealth redistribution (just listened to interview with Gary Stevenson on @therestpolitics.bsky.social) when this cloud appeared behind us. An interesting interjection by the universe...

I feel this is a somewhat misjudged motto? Brave to try to recapture it for the nation, perhaps

Brought my stick into London today and a young chap gave me his priority seat. I hadn't even thought about it! Most people are good. Btw I find I get the most friendly response from a wooden hooked stick by a huge margin. Very interesting

Getting in an electric car with no driver. The future is here, it's just not evenly distributed - William Gibson.

Waymo in Phoenix. I'm still alive BTW. Experience was incredibly smooth. Takes you all of 2 mins to start thinking, "A driver? What is this, the Victorian era?" Europe needs to catch up
