American poet, latest book: THE BUNKER BOOK, in which the COVID pandemic meets the medieval plague tale, just released to audiobook. Under contract for new book — CROSSING STATE LINES — about our divided America and how we might reunite despite all.
What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

Congratulations to Maria Corina Machado on resisting a dictatorial regime at great risk to her person in order to free her country.

Let us all be a little braver because of her today.

New Orleans is an interesting palimpsest. Here you see an old church, and in the background, you can see the Superdome.

We don’t have enough cities in the US, I think, where the old abides comfortably with the new.

Good morning, Blue Sky! I am petting this dog —- then spending the day sending off poems to journals, doing my laundry, and in the evening, I’ll go to a local bookstore to hear first African-American woman senator Carolyn Mosley-Braun read from her new memoir.

What are you doing today?

This ad for Mary KayKayKay is new. I expected the lip color to be a neck-biting blood-red, but soft-pink will do, I guess.

Let me teach you what I call the Anne Frank rule:

If you know of/see/suspect a teenager is persecuted by Nazis or others, it’s your duty to help that teenager, possibly to die in her defense.

He or she who saves one life saves the whole world. It’s time to save the world. Yes, I am talking to you.

I just saw this map of Mike Johnson’s district. I am struck by how gerrymandered it is.

Look at that giant hole in its middle! Apparently, those people scare the Louisiana State Legislature and possibly the Speaker of the House.

I salute them.

It’s snowing in New Orleans right now. Snow is rarer than volcanic ash around here.

This is my house.

This is me today. I am no longer 20 I reflect, however, that when my mother was this age, she looked 20 years older than I do now.

Christian Nationalism is a heretical cheapening of the Gospel.

This should engender outrage, first from CHRISTIANS, then from every American who believes in human rights.
