I'm giving a talk tonight - 'Weeds, Wakes and Water: a history of funeral traditions in the West'. I'm also having a heat pump installed at my house so I'm living in the caravan with my dogs. No hot water till next week they say....good job my friend lives close otherwise I'd be grubby tonight!

I've been reading this superb book - Wifedom by Anna Funder. It's the story of George Orwell's wife - part bio, partly an exposition of how women subjugate themselves for their husbands. I urge you to read it, it is so good. And I wasn't a fan of Orwell before I started it, certainly not now.

The dogs are so bored and refuse to go out in the awful weather, so a likimat with yogurt helps a bit. Twiglet hogs it though!
