If a country OTHER than the United States banned a form of media and then brought it back under government control, we'd be decrying their attacks on the free press and referring to it as "state-controlled TikTok."

Just saying.

Even in the most cynical criticisms of "virtue signaling" it's only a bad thing if hypocrisy (a personal failing) is considered so bad that it negates the value of community building, and I can't see how it possibly could.

My own opinion is that it's good to signal (through words and/or actions) the virtues that you value; that's one of the most important parts of maintaining a healthy community.

I was planning to stay offline this week, but I am too upset by how Christmas was the deadliest day yet for Palestinian journalists, five beautiful men killed by US-Israel: Fadi Hassouna, Ibrahim Al-Sheikh Ali, Mohammed Al-Ladah
Faisal Abu Al-Qumsan and Ayman Al-Jadi—201 in total!!!

-"2000 Miles" by the Pretenders counts as a Christmas song

-"My Favorite Things" from Sound of Music counts as a Christmas song, but only if it's performed by The Supremes

-Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" does not count as a Christmas song, ever, regardless of who's singing

That is all.

Man patīk, ja Latvijas kultūra ir pieejama. Gan tiem, kas izbauda Mērnieku laikus "smagajā" formā, gan tiem, kam vajag vieglo valodu. Galvenais, lai lasa un priecājas.

If you, as you were reading history books, tried really hard to understand how exactly so many people could be so blindly supportive toward Stalin/Hitler/Pol Pot/Mao/etc -- well, here's how:

Look at the people blindly spitting at Ukrainians and telling them to go fuck themselves now.

Man patīk ideja kā tāda, un darbnīcas izskatās jēdzīgas.

I seriously want to know how so many people in these online reading groups are reading 100-300 books a year. Between work, parenting, personal responsibilities, and household tasks alone, I'm lucky to get 2 hours a night to read.

I am sometimes surprised that I like getting older. Being a teenager sucked. Being a young adult sucked. I prefer aging even if my back now hurts after sleeping.
