The other thing that annoys me to no end is that Cass detractors are unwilling to engage with the way that different priors change the hypotheses which are most likely. If you have a low Pr(GAHT actually works) then "This phenomenon occurs because GAHT works" is actually fairly unlikely!

This is hysterical. GRADE uses "high, moderate low and very low" to describe scientific evidence but the cass review calls things "Weak" which is unscientific.

Not suggesting this is unambiguous proof, but I consider this to be meaningful evidence that taking the reports in that screenshot seriously won't cause you to update in the wrong direction

I can think of a number of phenomena that could explain why higher levels of anti-depressant consumption don't contraindicate the idea that the social systems in Nordic countries lead to greater levels of happiness, but I think it does need to be explained

Obviously this needs a bunch of context but here we have a clear representation of the strength of Medawar's shadow! This unambiguously my new favourite scientific figure. Why isn't this hanging up in every ageing biologists office.

I inadvertently gave Claude an eye test. Sonnet, legacy sonnet and Haiku fail, Opus passes, GPT4, 4o and 4o mini all pass. Odd! (results do seem to replicate)
