Over the years I have trained myself to celebrate submission of proposals (congrats on writing the thing! Fingers crossed!) - typically the overwhelming emotion is gratitude that I can stop reading the damn thing which I have inevitably got fed up with 😅

Perhaps a little of this - but I’ve said no to a lot! There are just so many things 😅 mostly good things and I’m very excited, just also running face first into the limits of what I can feasibly do. Oops

(FWIW I would never take tears as an issue on a candidate’s part, vivas are always a huge deal. I aim for celebrations of people’s hard work and exciting science, but recognise the many complex things that are almost always going on in the background - almost any reaction is possible/expected!)

(I say this as I was wished good luck at another institution when I said I was there for a viva - which I am taking as a compliment as mine was 14 YEARS ago 😱)
