Welcome new folks! Happy to see so much activity here. I’m interested in place-related work, writing, all things Elizabeth Bishop, pedagogy and learning, poetry, children’s lit, crafting, nature & soccer/football. I’m a professional digital humanist. I love to hear about what people are working on.
Fun part about last night (besides seeing everyone’s photos and enthusiasm) was having the whole family participate. I got M to come out with a cell phone, and A & I showed M how to take photos at night. Then we exchanged aurora photos on our family group chat 💗

A little bit of auroral activity visible in the greater Boston area tonight!

1) How can my head contain so much snot? This is not awesome.

2) The kid is working on a book report for English class but decided to read a book in French (the teacher okayed it), so now we're having conversations about translation. M is translating extracts of text, as is proper. And awesome.

My kid always laughs at me because I feel like I'm constantly breaking things and causing problems, but I have to say it's very fun to lob a problem into Slack and watch our awesome developers dissect it.

(My superpower is breaking code in unexpected ways.)

Looks like Sarah Kendzior’s suspension isn’t an error. I don’t know Sarah, but I’ve followed her on and off for like 15 years and this is very surprising to me. I’m not big on assuming the worst based on partial information but this feels bad.
Presumably a mistaken suspension of a journalist who is a very anodyne poster over here, @aaron.bsky.team and co. What's the best way to reach the team who can look into it?
In a rare case of Substack notes usefulness, I just learned that Sarah Kendzior (author of They Knew and a brilliant writer) got bounced from Bluesky. What the hell? new @sarahkendzior.bsky.social

Blarrrghhh -- yesterday my throat hurt so much I felt like I'd swallowed glass. Today I can talk, but the cold moved into my head. My brain is fuzzy, and everything is taking too long. <cranky>

Today is the publication day for WITHOUT CONSENT, a book I am so proud to share with the world, and that the New York Times Book Review says "is years — decades — overdue."

Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

Kid counted 28 turkeys at the bus stop. The bus driver had to honk at them to get them out of the road.

Well this is fun: throat so sore I can’t talk. Sigh.

(Family has been passing around a head cold, and it’s apparently my turn 🫠)

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

This introvert had an absurdly social weekend. I don’t think I’ve touched my laptop since… Friday? Which is probably very healthy but also yikes I have a lot of prep before the week begins!

Saw a Swiss news headline that describes Rosalía as polyglot pop, and I’m so here for that.

Thank you so much to all of you who donated to this food pantry, and to those of you who still might be able to. My kid went to this school and we love them so much. brooklyn.news12.com/brooklyn-sch...

You know what? Today is going to be all Proust and soccer with a little bit of activism to balance things out.

Watching part of Sunderland vs. Arsenal before the kid’s final soccer game of the season, and I’m yelling at the tv like it’s a vocal warm up for sitting on the sidelines 😅

(I only yell encouragement at the kids — and offsides warnings — whereas the tv gets a lot of “What was that???”)

All right, the list is never ending, but I am *forcing* myself to pause. Went to dinner with friends last night. Got up this morning, made breakfast, and then returned to bed with a cup of coffee and a book. Errands can wait 24 hrs.

M: What’s a seminar?
Me: *explains differences between seminars and lectures* I usually prefer seminars, but a lecture by someone who really knows their topic can be amazing.
M: Like @notquitehydepark.bsky.social talking about Taylor Swift?
Me: This is your reference point for lectures/lecturers?

Being the PTO comms lead means I now have the principal’s cell — we were texting to coordinate some comms* — and I’m wondering how the kid will react. Mortification? Excitement to have an “in” with the admin? Total apathy?
