Some plant fossils, like this piece of Triassic wood, retain some organic matter of their cell walls 🌿⛏️ With a little bit of chemistry we can remove minerals & transfer the organic matter on a piece of cellulose acetate that can be observed under the microscope 🧪Happy #FossilFriday! #paleobotany

Some species didn’t just survive the asteroid… they've barely changed! Wrote up a journal post about my new iNaturalist project: Cretaceous Critters of North America.

What you see below is a ‘woolly’ mouse—viable mice with #WoollyMammoth genes, sporting a thick golden coat and extra fat reserves. This proof of concept is a major success for #deextinction, demonstrating how #Genomics and #CRISPR could help revive species we’ve lost to extinction! #Biotech #Science
Scientists Have Bred Woolly Mice on Their Journey to Bring Back the Mammoth
The mice were created by Colossal Biosciences, which edits DNA for species conservation, and has been working to bring back the woolly mammoth since 2021.

Did you know sea turtles at one point reclaimed the niche of predatory marine reptiles during the Age of Mammals? Trachyaspis, a Miocene pelagic sea turtle, evolved a pseudodont (‘false-toothed’) jaw and powerful forelimbs, likely chasing large, fast-moving cephalopods. #TurtlePower

Has anyone created a proper #Paleontology starter pack? I seem to be finding follows mostly through interactions, wondering if there's an already made starter pack for me to look at!

Watching “White Tip's Journey” from #DinosaurPlanet and they feature a #Velociraptor named Broken Hand. I never noticed until now that his actual broken hand is oriented palm down like that of the Jurassic Park raptors… that’s a pretty clever way to teach the viewer!

The real red pill 🔴 is #Botany. Once you learn about invasive plant species, you’ll never look at any forest or field the same way again.

Visited Dinosaur State Park, CT on Sunday and got to see the real footprints of ancient dinosaurs and was even greeted by one of their modern descendants! This site preserves hundreds of footprints and is a must-see for an East Coast paleo-enthusiast!
