Good thread. Worth a read as a reminder of the importance of context in journalism, especially concerning all the information we already know about Trump and Epstein’s relationship.
(🧵) This thread from a retired journalism professor who helped usher in the era of metajournalism in the 2010s—and has written a book on the relationship between Trump and Epstein as part of his NYT-bestselling Proof Series—explains how to report properly on the Trump-Epstein Scandal.

Here we go.

The term for this, is, I believe 'moral injury'
As much as it’s important for the public to face the truth about the vile, monstrous people in seats of power…it’s also a kind of mass trauma & harm, that we’re all being subjected to every time we check in on the news.
along with the heinous literal crimes i think a lot about how there's a kind of moral, national crime in subjecting all of us to this, to this consuming our politics, committed against us by a number of powerful and connected people up to and including the president

The Good Samaritan apparently now comes with terms & conditions, in the Roman Catholic Church. The Church hierarchy has had a second chance to stand up to fascism, after failing in WWII, & but has chosen to side with it. It’s very clear, from the New Testament, that Jesus Christ would denounce this.
This is wrong.

It’s wrong morally. It’s wrong theologically. It’s wrong.

As a Catholic, I want trans folks to be part of my community and I want trans folks to have the access to the lifesaving care they need.

As a Catholic, I believe that Catholic institutions should be institutions of service—>

One of the reasons that print media is struggling is that it is not trusted. Too many ignorant opinions & not enough facts.

Here’s the NYT App landing page. Guess who else is in the files? The NYT.

The files are a wake up call on establishment behaviour.

This feels like peak infantilisation of the elderly.

What exactly is ‘disgraceful’ about giving the elderly/infirm practical advice about how to be physically intimate in a safe way? They aren’t children. Their innocent eyes don’t need to be protected. Plus it’s medical guidance not a jazz mag

Misgendering the trans person throughout, presenting it entirely from the complainants' perspective and including no trans voices, using transphobic tropes and making the trans woman out to be a pervert. Impartial, my arse!
