When TB treatment is interrupted, patients are far more likely to develop drug-resistant TB, which is a catastrophe both individually (the disease becomes harder to cure) and societally (we're allowing the bacteria millions of new opportunities to develop further resistance). Many people will die.

“Leaders need to be properly scrutinised”

God I wish all the media understood their roles the way Laura Tingle does…

An election is nearing and Dutton doesn't seem to have a plan
The opposition leader says he is "happy to take questions" but won't appear at the National Press Club or offer specifics on his cost-cutting plans.

The Universe bless Ms Laura Tingle. Dutton left @latingle.bsky.social agog after his interview with Speersy this morning & Laura was razor sharp in remembering the LNP’s track record in past spending promises 👇

Australia’s university Vice-Chancellors are among the highest paid in the world.
Australia’s PhD students are some of the lowest paid.
That is not a sign of a healthy education system.

When people like Dutton talk about “cultural diversity” or DEI jobs they’re essentially just denigrating non-white people.
It’s straight racism and journalists need to call it out.

Dutton says cultural diversity jobs do nothing to help Australians
During an impassioned speech on Friday, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton pledged, if elected, to slash the public sector – and one area in particular.

If you haven’t heard the term “astroturf” before, it’s political slang for faking a “grassroots” movement or organisation. I am no teal but supremely fuck this. I hope Monique and Allegra crush the disinformation barons like ants. Solidarity. #auspol
🚨 this week the coal industry launched a dirty campaign against the independents through an ‘astroturf’ group: ‘australians for progress’.

using classic negative ad styling — complete with misinformation — billboards went up in monique ryan’s & allegra spender’s electorates.

Slow. Clap.

This is a BS distraction and everyone knows it.

This x 1000! It’s also terrible for anyone who shares the city roads with them.
A tax system that incentivises people buying big utes for "work" is terrible for the environment.

Emissions from passenger cars have fallen since 2005.

But that has been more than cancelled out by the increase in emissions from utes and other light commercial vehicles.

The head of the NACC, retired judge Paul Brereton, is incapable of leading a public service organisation of over 260 people with a very forward facing and very public role

He appears either unwilling or unable to accept that he does not have the skill set required for such a vast undertaking

#NACC
I wish I was making this up, but the boss of the National Anti-Corruption Commission has given a speech where he admits that he acted with "apprehended bias" during the Robodebt non-investigation. As Bernard Keane and many others argue, Brereton has to resign www.crikey.com.au/2024/11/18/p...
Discredited Brereton should stop whingeing and resign from the NACC
The National Anti-Corruption Commission head devoted a major speech to explaining why he shouldn't resign. It perfectly demonstrated why he should.
