There were so many fantastic presentations including some undergraduate and graduate student research that blew me away! And what better way to wrap up a conference than by listening to the university’s student mariachi band (Mariachí Aztlán)? Y’all were amazing!

The 2025 Texas Association of Biological Anthropologists meeting was a blast!!! It’s always a great conference, but it was so special to get to host it at UTRGV this year!!

This is my last week as a postdoc (!!!), so I’m packing up my work office. Thought I’d document the “nonna corner” (i.e., pictures my grandma colored for me while I’ve been a postdoc + a photo collage that I made after she died in August 2024) 💜
Pictures my grandmother colored for me (I don’t even know if it’s true but I read somewhere that coloring helps with Alzheimer’s and she seemed to enjoy it). Pictures include Pokémon, a lighthouse, fairy princesses, a monkey, and bugs. A photo collage I made with pictures of me and my grandmother (nonna) from when I was a baby to 2 weeks before she did in August 2024.

Poetry can take the form of self-expression, connecting with others, cultural heritage, political activism, you name it. I missed #WorldPoetryDay yesterday, but rereading some of my favorites today 😊
