I'm at my sister's house and we're already putting up the Christmas tree. Last year I gifted her some unique ornaments, including these little critters.

Today that Christmas Eve is upon us, I want to remind people of the "Tió de Nadal", or Christmas Log.

A custom from Catalonia and Aragon in which children take a hollow log home, take care of it during Advent and then, on Christmas Eve, beat it with sticks until it shits out presents.

The medieval wooden font in the little church at Efenechtyd in North #Wales. It's a lovely thing: the colour of treacle and invitingly tactile. Exceedingly rare, it's survival is probably due to the fact that the great Welsh folklorist and antiquarian Elias Owen was vicar here.

Always funny/incredibly infuriating when you get people claiming that they're "Anglo Saxon" (they are always highly questionable). You're not a time traveller. That identity died out over 1000 years ago. Nobody alive is "Anglo Saxon". The later Anglo Saxons called themselves "English".

Things used in everyday life are the real archaeological treasures! These sewing #needles were made from animal bone some 15,000 years ago. Some designs simply don't need to be improved, because form and functions were perfectly matched from the start. Form follows function! 🧵1/2
