Man mystery solved, my mom brought home a massive poinsettia without me noticing and the jerks nibbled the leaves, which was enough to make them both REALLY miserable for a day but at least did no lasting harm!

I still don’t like having my picture taken (and the political dimension is something else entirely), but we have to be able to take up space in the word, sometimes quite literally. I did boudoir photos once with a lesbian photographer and it was amazing to be able to take that back in private.

realized sooner that there’s ways to separate your self-image from pure enjoyment of aesthetics- lipstick doesn’t care what size you are and pretty dresses are special no matter what. For me, anyway. It’s an awful enough world and it was important for me to reclaim beauty.
