Celebrity sighting in my hometown!

For #thingthursday, the Pontiac emblem from the hood of my first car, a 1980 Pontiac J2000 coupe that I was gifted by the car's previous owner, my maternal grandmother.

This solar storm puts the May 2024 storm to shame. The aurora have been ebbing and flowing for two hours now! 🌌

For #ThingThursday, the fossilized ammonite shell I bought for myself while in high school from the Natural Wonders that used to be at our local mall.

It once belonged to a member of a tentacled class of animals that arose during the Devonian (450 million years ago) and which – like the dinosaurs – were driven extinct during the Chicxulub Disaster. The fossil was cut from its stone entombment and then shaped and polished to a shine. It is mostly charcoal-colored, with gray highlights depicting ridges along the spiral.

For #thingthursday, here are a couple of old newspaper advertisement printing stamps that I took from a previous job before they were tossed out. The first image is how they actually appear (since they're stamps), and the second image is mirrored to make them more legible.

The graphics on both stamps are reversed negative images, so that they will create a stamped image that looks correct. The stamps are metal set on a wood backing and laying on a wooden surface. The same image as before but mirrored, so that the images of the products the stamps are advertising appear almost the way their stamped image would appear.

Everything I watched this week was really, really fun. For being a JAWS rip-off, Alligator was kind of great in its own right. Cellar Dweller feels like an expanded episode of a horror anthology series. Ticks and Slime City are also a good time.

"Women don't like the vehicle"
The Thunder Machine from the G.I. JOE toy line from the 1980s. It is a Frankenstein vehicle cobbled together from different sources, clearly inspired by vehicles from the MAD MAX series of films. The car is covered in every Dreadnok action figure, a motley crew of post-apocalyptic punks joined by a warthog posing on the roof of the vehicle. Contrary to the meme post text, there is one lone woman in the group, and she probably does like the Thunder Machine; is she perhaps the exception that proves the rule?

I love these almost-certainly Next Generation-inspired maps for the Dillard's inside the mall of my childhood.

CRITTERS was the stand-out this week, a solid family-friendly horror film.

I can't believe the toilet scene in GHOULIES is mere seconds long. I literally blinked and missed it. For almost 40 years, I've thought GHOULIES was "Gremlins, but in your plumbing." Nope.
