We report: for the first few hours of the night, the sky was only an expanse of light-eating, inky black. When the waxing gibbous moon appeared through gauzy clouds, we almost thought a silver sun was rising. We find blue shadows spilled out over our bed, dripping onto the floor.

I have a memory frozen in amber of watching this show with my little brother in our living room, eating honey barbecue wings and popcorn chicken my dad brought home for dinner from KFC.
I remember 10 year old me getting so excited to finally see this show summer of 1993, and it was godawful. Adult me isn’t too impressed either.

The X-Files is genuinely a timelessly good show, because when not focusing on overarching conspiracy plot, they would really just focus on a single concept and quite crucially, it would cast an incredible actor to center the episode around who would be utterly god damn captivating to watch.

I’ve started rewatching some of The X-Files and it really is amazing that even a bad episode of this is exponentially better than almost anything from the streaming era.
