Nayanika Ghosh is a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Gender, Sexuality & Feminist Studies at Duke University. She recently completed her PhD in the history of science from Harvard University. Her research brings interdisciplinary scholarship on science, race, and gender in conversation with the histories of U.S. higher education, the New Left, and the Cold War. She is currently working on her first monograph, Genes and the Left: Sociobiology and the Backlash Against Radical Science.

Indeed, forprofit education has come to be embedded within the structure of public education: the private equity owner of the University of Phoenix, Apollo Global Management, has worked to sell the beleaguered institution to the University of Idaho, following the sale of for-profit Kaplan University to Purdue University in 2018. Even the country’s most elite institutions are subject to these schemes: Marc Rowan, Apollo Global Management’s CEO, has sought to radically reconfigure the priorities and principles of the University of Pennsylvania via a donor revolt, which gained strength in the wake of the Israel-Gaza War, though his campaign started prior to October 7, 2023 (Snyder 2023; Tkacik 2023).1 These developments replicate within in1. Many of the students in our college and universities are today driven into an irresponsible radicalism. But that drive does not come from the critics of our American political institutions. It comes chiefly from the irresponsible defenders of those institutions -- the men who make a mockery of freedom by using in its service the forces of suppression.

The university's medical center and med school-aligned Biological Services Division, or BSD, has, in recent times, according to Fitch Ratings, generated half of the university's revenue — up from a one-third share of universitywide operating revenues across 2012-13.

Instead, Mamdani chose music, recording the soundtrack for his mother's 2016 film, Queen of Katwe, as Young Cardamom, with fellow MC Abdul Bar Hussein (HAB). Their songs about girls and street food were fun to listen to but they weren't exactly pulling in the streams.

When the university research mission jeopardizes the real estate mission, the latter prevails.
But according to emails obtained by Inside Higher Ed and other outlets, Fitts worried that publicizing Terrell's research and the clinic's other work, which includes legal advocacy, could jeopardize funding for the university's $600 million plan to redevelop New Orleans' historic Charity Hospital into residential and commercial spaces as part of a broader downtown expansion plan.

Re-reading George Caffentzis, sounding a warning about attacks on campus activists from the 1970s
Undoubtedly the vengence was sweet; it was obvious enough anyway. But surely things could not be left like that, for it was not just a matter of getting rid of a few weak willed presidents and some campus activists and then return to business as usual. What had to be reintroduced was a wholly new relation between state investment, university structure and labor market with a wider restructuring of capital in the crisis, for the previous relation just could not guarantee control over the reproduction oflabor power.

While we do not anticipate the closure of Crozer Health will impact regular student health care services on campus, the loss of two major facilities in the region could have implications for local emergency medical response. With the nearest trauma centers located 30-45 minutes from campus, and those facilities now taking on former Crozer Health patients, we anticipate increased EMS response times, longer hospital wait times, and longer wait times for access to emergency mental health care.
