More trips to more restored/protected tallgrass prairie habitats in northern Indiana. This time I was at Fisher Oaks, Prophetstown, Weiler-Leopold, and others. These properties are made possible by land trusts like NICHES and the Indiana State Parks system and Indiana DNR.

I put about 300 miles on my car, and twice that on my feet, visiting several Indiana nature preserves (Nature Conservancy and IN div. of nature preserves, INDNR) for some research. The bottle gentian was a new one for me. The toadflax, while non-native, sure is pretty. More details in alt-text

The woody and brushy stuff on the Butler University campus prairie was too much for little old me and my little old chainsaw so we finally brought in some professionals. Hopefully with some fire and luck we can keep on top of it for a while. (Indianapolis, Indiana, USA).

This would be (in my opinion) a great starting place for getting familiar with basic data wrangling and graphics. Doesn't include statistical analyses (i.e. "tests"), but that's by design. Several of the authors are here on bluesky, I believe. They could answer questions.

Oooh! Taught a whole class on trade-offs this past spring. This was a class favorite (maybe because I brought in a bunch of chilies and the students were all game to try them!)

I spotted this ground cherry today on our campus prairie. It was a new species for me. I could tell immediately it was Solanaceae, but I had no idea what kind. Pretty flower!

This is a nice time of year for the Butler University prairie. Lots of flowers and lots of bees. Our grasses and some of our forbs are now 5 to 7 feet tall; compass plant and cup plant are 10 feet tall! (Indianapolis, IN, USA)

My wife recently bought me an e-bike, and I'm incredibly fortunate that I can go from home to work (14 miles) without ever riding with cars. Bike trail the entire way.
