Gaiters. Normandy, June 2024

On the 80th anniversary of V.E.Day. 80 years after America helped rescue Europe from fascism it's increasingly becoming difficult not to think who now will rescue us from America.

I'm pleased to exhibit a new body of work at the McCord-Stewart Museum next month. More information will be available soon.

I had an interview for fast entry to the U.S. last week at a moment in time when many Americans are thinking about their fast exits. It reminded me of how I, as a Black child in the UK, was so easily seduced by its dominant fictions even when knowing its dark history.

Merry Christmas! I made an end-of-year newsletter a few weeks ago and forgot to send it. Anyway, if, later today, you're feeling stuffed and bloated - while waiting for the heart attack or indigestion fears to subside - have a look. Here's the link.

For the last two years, I've been working on a commission for the McCord-Stewart Museum, which finally opens early next year. It's been an honour to be asked to make this work in my newly adopted city for a museum that reflects its history.

This year, I was fortunate to show the last chapter of the Across The Sea Is A Shore work—From Wence We Came—at the Breda Photo Festival in the Netherlands. However, because Air Canada canceled my flight, I spent only 36 hours in Breda, 16 hours in the air, and 4 hours on trains.

I'm reflecting on some of the activities I was lucky to be involved in. I was pleased to show a selection of work from the series Across the Sea Is A Shore at the Bristol Photo Festival. The series intergenerationally examined the legacy of migration from Jamaica to the UK

Attacking the most heavily defended oil refinery in the Reich would bring Mackie's life to an end on January 14th, 1945, as he piloted his Lancaster Bomber. Hit by a night fighter and then finished by flak, his plane exploded in the night sky before falling to earth.

I continued to develop work about a man I never met this year —a man who died 80 years ago. While his passing left an absence in the life of my father-in-law, who also would never know him. Photography, writing, and acts of pilgrimage have attempted to fill it

A year in review of failed photographic purchases. #2769

1) Peak Design Camera strap. It's like bending an old tyre around your neck.

2)Peak Design wrist strap. Wow, now I have an expensive camera stuck to my wrist.

3)Falcam F38 quick releases: Loosens on camera plate. I bought 6 of them.

So, my first post. Well, I've thought about this image, by Phillip Montgomery, and the caption upon it all Sunday. Trying to work out what happened in this man's life for him to extend so much love towards his executioner to come? Because tRump will surely erase him
