Also re: stats…

If I don’t watch any other movies for the next week, bar the cinema trips I already have booked, then Number 250 will be Avatar: Fire and Ash and I’m almost very tempted to actively try to ensure I don’t watch anything else…
My film stats this year is so weird because what do you mean it’s the least movies I’ve seen overall since I started Letterboxd, but the most cinema trips I’ve had since 2023 (the year I wrote reviews for Novastream)?

Baker toes a very very fine line between fetishisation and verisimilitude, and it’s all in that fairytale sense of story, until it becomes a spiralling tragedy of blurred lines and emotional trauma. Madison is remarkable, Eydelshteyn is pitch perfect, and Borisov is unreal.
Really chill early morning movie, I’m sure!

The Conjuring ranked updated

The Conjuring: Last Rites is a little too self important, and lingers too often to truly be effective. It’s all the right ideas, but fails to fully engage their full potential. Lots of fun stuff, and the personal angle for the Warren’s is compelling, but it all leaves a lot to be desired.

Zootopia 2 is a tighter, more considered film that places the allegorical themes of the series into a gear that feels properly considered and engaged. It results in a charming, fun buddy cop adventure, that gets a bit too cute at points, but is more effective, fun and evocative than its predecessor.

I’m sorry, what do you mean that twice in 2025 has seen Disney release genuinely considered works about capitalism driven forced displacement/genocide, and they didn’t block or force it to be changed?
A nice, light visit to Gold Class before heading into movie crazy season.

The Smashing Machine is the anti-underdog story, that paints the importance of loss, and not losing sight of the important elements of life in favour of ambition. Safdie’s awareness of his stylings lends itself this antithesis, building a surprisingly quiet drama. A unexpected work from Safdie.

I’m so excited for the Sn*der cult to kick back into full gear with this godforsaken Netflix purchase of WB…

A lot of the people bemoaning Netflix's possible acquisition of WB are ignoring the fact that if WB goes to Paramount, it will be Disney buying Fox all over again--WB will become a "label" within Paramount and then simply disappear. Ellison hasn't shown he can run one studio. Don't give him two. >

Fackham Hall is a deliciously funny send up of the British screen industry’s favourite period genres. An absurd, wicked comedy of the utter silliness of the aristocracy that plays pitch perfectly to all the genre tropes, packed with laugh a minute immaturity and hysterical stupidity. A blast.

Nuremberg is a timely film about the how even the most evil has human fallacies. It is, however, also not nearly as evocative as it needs to be, and never truly feels as focused or honed as it needs. Handsomely crafted, gorgeously performed, but doesn’t quite capture its potential.

This is the third time in as many weeks that I’ve seen a movie that just did not know when to get out. Guys, I think you need to work out your conclusions better…
Spending an ADO going to the movies!?!? I would never!
