But this is also the unique work a popular thing has to do & it's very different from the work something unpopular has to face- and that's ok lmao. This is all to say that I think the weird/resentful backlash is normal, expected even. It's just kind of silly seeing what urban legends persist & why.

Extremely cold take but this is also why so many older (see: Gen X) Star Wars fans won't shut the hell up about The Last Jedi eight years later. It was a *slightly* more challenging movie that was inescapable at the time. On one hand I kind of understand how that inescapable backlash happens,

A lot of misinformation around MHA's ending that went viral remind me of the bad misinfo/memes around Evangelion in that they came from people engaging with the popular thing in a highly resentful/detached manner. Kind of like how the Titanic tidbit w/Jack & Rose on the door got parroted in the past

One reason I recall the bad Evangelion takes of the late 2000s-early 2010s persisted into the late 2010s is just that it was reflective of a smug sense of superiority, usually to justify not watching or to gas up another thing not as big. Which is usually *the* out if a fanbase is "annoying" or w/e

I.e., how resentment towards a popular thing can meld the series or brand into the least charitable version of itself to justify anger at it being ubiquitous to the point of parody via marketing or community. You see this writ-large every time a big shonen ends or a popular movie is very successful.

I feel this- although my nostalgia for Gunbuster is way stronger at this point, but I cannot deny the consistency of Diebuster from basically every presentation aspect. Also, Stardust Tears as an ED song beats Try Again by a country mile.

I head cannoned he dropped out and took a gap year during the events of GQuuuuuuX during my first watch.

There's a huge case to be made for those long runners having some of the most iconic anime music of the 2000s, especially because they did/have run so long and their scores were on repeat so much- yet I never got tired of any of them

OHH my bad! I agree with you completely lol- but I wouldn't get into Gundam for several more years so it was what it was at the time lmaoo

I never said the anime I was watching was good, but I also literally cannot disagree with you in the slightest lmao!
November 19, 2025 at 2:41 PM
To be fair I think everyone goes through a *phase* of that, usually when they're younger. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have an "anime is capitalistic and misogynistic in nature and must be eliminated" week in college as I sat down to watch each new Rising of the Shield Hero ep each week lmao

Do you have a favorite oneshot from the collection? I'm partial to Mermaid Rhapsody myself.

"Well *lip smack* I like to eat pasta and look at the stars" takes me out every time.

My current setup after a previous gig ended is working at a pizza place and doing animation portfolio projects in the evening-night while balancing freelance here and there. It's tough, but I keep sane by making a LOT of self indulgent art/webcomic stuff that's just for me. It goes a long way for me

What if they just somehow find a new Woody? This is a stupid comparison-but then we'd be in Alien: Resurrection territory with how it's technically not the *same* character because the *other* one had a finished arc. That's the only way I can see it progressing, I think.

The Nuzlocke forums are still around?? I remember it being a great forum but I haven't checked it in about a decade! Idk how you can have a thorough history video without mentioning it! I recall it being such a fun and welcoming place in the mid-2010s!

The idea of smooshing all of the 3d mario games in some way into one movie's not a bad idea so I think at this point I'll just go into this new one trying to enjoy it for what it is.
