We're thrilled to announce our new Avalon Food Hub — launching this fall!

Much like our Western Food Hub, the Avalon Food Hub will be an online store that connects customers with local food producers. Customers fill their carts, and we assemble and pack the orders. Simple, fresh, and delicious!

Dropped the ball for Human Rights Day on Bluesky (my bad) but here are a few of our belated thoughts:

Canada helped to create the Universal Declaration of Human Rights back in 1948. In doing so, they agreed that food is a basic human right. Now (76 years later), 1 in 4 Canadians are food insecure.

Our latest newsletter breaks down a "why not both?" approach to charitable giving AND advocacy.

Food banks need support right now. And the government needs to take action if we want to reduce demand.

We need to donate (if we can) AND call for change.

December is filled with calls for generosity and this year feels even moreso. Food banks are regulalry breaking visitation records and they need donations.

Yet we know that food charity can't solve food insecurity. We need income-based solutions if we want to make a difference.

So what can we do?

Very happy to welcome Andre to a new role on our Board of Directors and four new faces!

We're thrilled to have Hannah Buckle, Betty Lundrigan, Rita-Anne Sheppard, and Kaylee Sullivan join as board members and help us work towards a province where everyone can eat with joy and dignity.
Today is my first day on @bsky.app and also my first day as Chair of Food First NL. After 3 years as Vice Chair, I’m happy to take on the new leadership role in this forward-thinking provincial organization for this next term.
Good morning, Bluesky!

We've officially made the switch.

We plan to use this platform to share our advocacy work, opportunities to get involved, and any big updates from the team.

In the meantime, feel free to pop any starter packs or handles we should follow in the comments!
