🧵 New study: How does the Danish Medicines Council (DMC) actually set priorities?
We interviewed 17 members and observed 3 meetings to understand how decisions about new medicines are made — and justified.👇 #bioethics #prioritysetting

New paper out!
Cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) is central to health-care priority setting. But when does it unfairly disadvantage people with disabilities? Nielsen, Hallsson, and I tested participants' views in a vignette-based survey (N = 1100, UK). 🧵#bioethics #discrimination

Attended the annual CEPDISC conference on discrimination on Friday. Lydia Tsiakiri did an excellent job presenting our paper on differential treatment based on vaccination status. Thanks to the organisers. Great to see new and familiar faces!

When cities exclude the homeless, it is wrongful discrimination!
In @bjpols.bsky.social Knight and I argue that hostile design (anti-sleep benches, spikes on window ledges) should be understood as discriminatory, and wrong for the same reasons as more familiar forms of discrimination.
Very proud🥳

Thrilled for the opportunity to talk and listen to academics, practitioners and people with lived experiences with surrogacy and(!)/or organ donation.
So much depth, nuance, and care at the conference in Bristol #bioethics

I'm very excited about the living organ donation event in Bristol next week. I'll be talking about the limits of altruism. Thanks to Bonnie Venter (@theorganogress.bsky.social ) and Liam Davis for making this happen!

Loved hosting the Controversial markets conference in Aarhus❤️ Amazing talks and the exchanges just went on seamlessly. Talking about altruism walking the bridge with no end; debating crowding out in the beautiful forest and discussing organ markets over dinner. I could not have wished for more❤️🥳

Copenhagen bound! To give a talk on 'Market discrimination' at the CEPDISC Workshop on Poverty. I'll talk about how some of the badness of discrimination that happens in relation to market transactions can be explained by people not adhering to market norms.

New publication!
In the Journal of Law and Medical Ethics, Thaysen and I argue against sentence reduction for prisoners who become living organ donors. Opportunity to donate may be unfairly unequal + the offer conflicts with most conceptions of why we punish. #organdonation #bioethics

Immensely proud to see Ida Nørregaard defend her PhD thesis on statistical discrimination.
She explores both normative questions about why it is wrong, and conducts some top-notch survey experiments to test why people tend to accept it and how we can decrease acceptance. #discrimination #xphi
