#UrbanPlanner thinking about cities, housing, climate and how we care for others and ourselves. 🌆🌱💜
Plowing sidewalks is an absolute necessity in Chicago, but even for our once-a-season snows in PDX. It's unconscionable that we force people with mobility challenges be housebound for weeks.
“This is not a luxury service. This is important. Disabled people deserve to be in community. People deserve to be able to not have to reschedule everything to get around,” Saltzman said.

“We’re asking to fund the pilot...and to say that disabled people matter.” #PlowTheSidewalks
'Plow The Sidewalks' Pilot Left Out Of City Budget, Angering Disability Rights Advocates
Facing an almost $1 billion budget gap, Mayor Brandon Johnson did not allocate funding to launch the pilot next year. But advocates want to see $1 million set aside to get it off the ground.

Turns out the threat of fascism is pretty good for NYT revenues. And before you say, "But Biden!" You know you weren't reading the paper for him...

Gotta love life with a sensitive 4-year old who starts crying after hearing the words to Frosty the Snowman because our eponymous hero is about to melt. #parenting #ThisBodesWell

Being on the P:NW board this past year has been one of the most impactful organizing experiences I've had in a long time! Let me know if you're interested in joining the effort to help make Portland a place where everyone has a place to call home.
After a successful 2024, Portland: Neighbors Welcome has some exciting news to share.

This article made me think of the best bit of parenting advice that I can give: whatever you want your kid to value, make it the prize. You're less likely to raise a kid that reads for pleasure when the prize for good behavior is always screen-time. www.vox.com/culture/3862...
America’s literacy crisis isn’t what you think
This is what happens when kids don’t read for pleasure anymore.

This is really unfortunate news. I feel so bad for the owners of a true landmark in downtown PDX. I visited 2nd Ave. on my first visit to the city back in 1994 and it always feels reassuring to step through their doors. I hope they can find a new location soon.

2nd Avenue Records forced to leave building after 42 years, another blow to downtown Portland, city’s music history
The record store will have to relocate or close after the owner of the Governor Building told businesses they had to move.

Barcelona has metro, trams, buses, bike-lanes, and walkable (& sit-able) streets. They also have these electric “trackless trams,” which are smooth-riding long buses that look like trams (which are considered cooler so it might help with ridership). I admit, they ARE very cool. Thoughts? #Barcelona

If you're a person currently agitating for Dems to care less about people made vulnerable by Trump because you think it will magically get you more votes next time, please fuck right off.
You know what would be cool? Not repeating the mistakes of 2004! When Bush beat Kerry, guess who establishment dems blamed? The gay rights movement. That year republicans put anti-gay marriage initiatives on the ballot to drive up turnout. 🧵👇
