haven't really posted here much lately but it seems it's picking up so hello! I currently have a 10.5 week old baby so the posts will likely continue to be sporadic, hah.

Really pleased to have this paper on qualitative researchers' experiences of peer review with @ginnybraun.bsky.social @janeemcallaghan.bsky.social @joannasemlyen.bsky.social out there - open access. We recruited lots of the contributors on the other place... psycnet.apa.org/record/2025-...

TFW they are predicting a bad hurricane season and your baby is due in September 😬🙃

dear journals: doing one peer review for you does not mean I've signed up to do one peer review every other week for you.

sometimes I wonder about my choice to leave a mainstream academic path. then I remember I almost never work on weekends anymore, and also that when I left my old institution I then did *free work* (supervision/review) for them for a full year after.

my files are a mess and my blood pressure is low: a pregnant academic story.

A fun fact about me is that if someone asks for an article of mine and I send it and never hear back I assume they hate it (and me) 🙃

first of March and I've already reviewed 9 papers this year...

just over here always being pedantic about how researchers define "recovery" from EDs 😜

For the first time in my life I took the full 2 week time period allotted to doing a peer review rather than feeling self imposed pressure to turn it around in 48-72 hours. Feels good 😂

Microsoft changing its default font to Aptos from Calibri is the best news.

so as it turns out December 28th may not be the optimal brain work time to try to coax one of the most difficult papers I've ever written into existence...

I get that being concise is important, but also... at what point are we completely losing the story of research in favour of simply presenting raw results?

I've stopped "getting credit" for peer reviews on tracking sites for a few reasons: 1. there are a bunch & they don't consolidate. 2. they suggest this "raises your profile as a reviewer." I've no interest in raising my profile as a reviewer. I like reviewing but I don't need to do more free labour.

what if I told you you did not need to justify your qualitative research by throwing numbers into it?

I just wrote the date as 2018, so there's that.

As a kid Christmas tree getting day was my absolute favourite—maybe even more special than Christmas Day! I’m soooo happy to have a real tree again after 4 years celebrating Christmas down in NZ where they have real trees but I was too worried about them drying out in the heat to get one!

the fact that I have never once submitted proofs without at least a minor anxiety attack is... concerning. 51 papers + 10 book chapters published and STILL. every. single. time.
