"The Palace had put out a statement soon after the Dismissal saying that they had no part to play in the decision that the Governor-General made. We now know that that is completely false."

Never underestimate the power of the music that shapes our culture—nor how transparently any confected attempt to co-opt it will come across. @jamesmassola.bsky.social is spot on to compare this to Abbott's knightmare: everyone knows that Australians are anti-elitism and anti-monarchy at heart.

Time to talk housing crisis #RevenueSummit25. Here’s Maiy Azize from Everybody’s Home, @purplepingers.bsky.social, Josie Lee from @oxfamaustralia.bsky.social, and @amyremeikis.bsky.social. The government is doing all the wrong things on housing, says Maiy. We need to build houses again. Lots. Fast.

Submarines or sovereignty? Which does Australia want most? The biggest transfer of sovereign wealth in Australian history, says @ebonybennett.bsky.social. All with no guarantee of delivery let alone success. All without a Treasury brief nor parliamentary scrutiny. Why? #RevenueSummit25

Why are gas prices going up? Because the more we export, the more we drive demand, and the more the prices rise. It’s costing households and industry more, and yet we’re not getting any meaningful revenue back to government. No company tax, no carbon tax, and a faulty PRRT. #RevenueSummit25
October 29, 2025 at 2:17 AM
Here’s @grogsgamut.bsky.social on how Big Gas is Taking the Piss. Turns out students are the backbone of our economy: the government earns more from HECS repayments than PRRT, and in WA and Qld, more money comes in from rego payments and gambling! Fark #RevenueSummit25
October 29, 2025 at 2:11 AM
And now it’s the very dapper Geoff Crittenden, CEO of Weld Australia (I want that indigo suit!!!) on the perilous and policy-free decline of Australian manufacturing. The Productivity Commission are clueless, says Geoff, to an unexpected round of applause. #RevenueSummit25

Here are some of @sauleslake.bsky.social’s guiding principles for useful tax reform #RevenueSummit25. More than enough revenue would be generated to meet the challenges we face. Let’s be courageous and achieve the reforms we need.
October 29, 2025 at 1:53 AM
And we’re back #RevenueSummit25. Here’s @sauleslake.bsky.social reminding us that the size of government does not correlate with living standards. Nor can our government afford the additional spending we’ll need to maintain standards of living without tax reform.

A 25% LNG export levy, says Liam, could instead double our social and affordable housing, and create more secure futures for the people who need it most. As well as powering 2.5 million homes with renewable energy. All the PRRT does is incentivise pollution and send profits offshore.
October 28, 2025 at 11:51 PM
Back to #RevenueSummit25. Here’s Liam O’Brien, ACTU Asst Secretary, on how a 25% tax on gas exports could fix Australia’s housing problem. For starters, the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT) is a rort—returning just 43c for every $100 of gas exported. Look at what Norway achieves! Sigh
October 28, 2025 at 11:45 PM
A carbon price addresses three big policy problems, says Dr Burfurd. It also affords meaningful compensation for low-income households. We need to make sure that polluters pay—so we can protect our environment and climate, as well as growing the revenue base. #RevenueSummit25

What the Nationals and every political party needs is to create the environment where valuable policy proposals are debated and promoted. Pandering to a dummy spit is no substitute for doing the job they’re elected to do.

If you’re planning to use a corporate logo as part of protest material, it’s best to take an explicitly satirical approach so as to set the creative appropriation within the fair dealing exception for copyright infringement! Protest and ridicule: together at last 🌈
