Didn't know you were a cultural essentialist, disappointed

Wow what a moralist
June 29, 2025 at 9:06 AM
I'm really finding the word "moralism" used as a pejorative increasingly vague, in your view was Jesus a moralist for preaching what is and isn't good, while also preaching that nobody is so bad to be beyond forgiveness? Are we "moralist" for condemning Israel's genocide against the Palestinians?

It's a form of temporary class compromise, though the capital-owning classes had ended up reversing the clock back as it failed to address the fundamental mode of production that generates mass inequalities. It's like a band-aid for wage slavery, which the owners of capital can rip off anytime.

It's cool, haven't been affected yet 😁

Like I can start employing caricatures against social democrats the same way you do against commies or anarchists, but it would not be a constructive way of having a rational discourse wouldn't it?
May 20, 2025 at 10:08 AM
Pragmatically anarchists are walking towards anarchy (as Malatesta said), instead of a matter of attaining anarchy in 10, 100, 10,000 years. Bertrand Russell had the courtesy of not portraying the anarchists as bomb-throwing teenagers, maybe we should learn from him.

I think it's best if we don't deal with flimsy caricatures. It's a bit astonishing how aspiring "Stoics" dislike the caricatures against them, yet for some reason when it comes to talking about out-groups, they don't have the courtesy to do the same thing.

Look at the context of my post, I was responding to Sean's post. Maybe don't just jump into a conversation an exercise caution before jumping in impulsively?

Who's arguing that Zenotopianism is Stoicism? Please point at specific statements I made instead of shadow boxing an imaginary opponent.

Now you're claiming that it's "logically incompatible" (a claim, but no argument), which is more than just saying that Zenotopianism isn't Stoicism.
May 19, 2025 at 6:57 AM
This is a straw man though. There are at least 3 political theories mentioned in this thread that claims to align with Stoicism : minarchism, social democracy (Sean), and communism (me).

Why single out communism as if I'm the *only* attempting to co-opt it?
May 19, 2025 at 6:53 AM
What are you talking about "outside in", "inside out", is this based on any sociological theory in the social sciences? Or just something you made up based on straw man?
May 19, 2025 at 6:49 AM
Then if you have, you'd know that Schofield's work read Zeno's Republic as communistic. I literally highlighted in the screenshot.

You said yourself : an aim doesn't' have to be achievable.

Why the double standard when it applies to the goal of communism?
May 19, 2025 at 6:46 AM
You'd be correct that it's closest to anarchism, but the fact that you mention communism as if it's completely distinct from anarchism suggests that you are not well-versed in political theory or history. Do you know anything about Kropotkin?
