It's time for another episode of The Archaeology Show!

There’s a lot of Neanderthal research in the news these days and the first two articles highlight some of those achievements.

🧪 Another Halloween, another batch of highly inaccurate and horrifying plastic skeleton decorations to look at in this year’s seasonally spooky blogpost.

And yes, the snail skeleton is addressed. Kinda. Ugh.

The (Entirely Inaccurate, Completely Nonsensical) Plastic Skeleton Wars Continue
Let’s be real – you know exactly what this blog post is about. I’ve been writing about these cursed plastic objects for years now. After doing an overview of the worst iterations …

Again let us remember that repatriation is not really the return of physical items but rather the transfer of power of who decides ownership and place of those items.

If these items are illicitly stolen or stolen by conquest what demands exist in negotiation?

The Platner discourse now being used not only as a cudgel to beat leftists with (despite most of the quick condemnations - if not complete dismissal long before this - coming from communists and other leftists) but also as a means of painting all leftists as “white” and “privileged” is really shit.

Archaeology is a mess and like I don't know how to convey that without sounding delusional

Not like conspiracy wise but like we dig through rubbish and infer human behaviour, it's messy and unsure and ultimately human.

The Smeds and the Smoos is an allegory for the Troubles and no one can convince me otherwise, do you see how many times "never" is used?

Utterly disappointing decision by @archaeologyeaa.bsky.social to reverse this decision, and really gross to see intimidation tactics being instructed for session monitors. Support colleagues who speak up and who refuse to enforce the EAA's instructions. 🏺

It's really sinking in that the EAA are requiring session volunteers, the least powerful people at a conference, to enforce their anti democratic decision to curb the academic free speech of presenters. It's despicable.

Nyamakop has now had multiple museums reach out now to ask if we need more artifacts for Relooted, and if we'd like to 3D scan parts of their African collection.

It was very much not on my bingo card that real life museums would be asking us to fictionally steal their artifacts lol

This is what I dislike about Westminster based political journos. There are 3 Green parties in the UK. This is an issue in ONE of them, the Green Party of England and Wales.

The @scottishgreens.org are a separate party, and they kick out transphobes swiftly.
